Need a service on my 145.012

I just bought a 145.012 and it has a problem with the 12h counter not resetting.

This watch does have hands and dial I definitely do NOT want to have replaced so I was just wondering what everyone's experience with Omega servicing is for stuff like this.

There are local shops that will perform the service for less but I'm honestly not concerned about the 200 USD difference in price. I just want the best work done and to get parts replaced ONLY if necessary.

Will Omega servicing ask me first if I want something replaced or will they just do it and not give back the original part (as Rolex does)?

They will return the original parts to you, but there is no guarantee that they will follow your instructions. They will determine what they think is appropriate to properly service the watch. If you want to be sure to preserve the vintage character of the watch, you are better off seeking out and using one of the many independent watchmakers recommended here on OF.

Find an independent that is reputable. If you need recommendations, this is the place. What is your location? Omega is a bad idea in most vintage watch situations.

If you drop it to Omega, 321 movements are most likely serviced in Bienne directly.
But I don't know if this is valuable for US market as well (I am based in France...).
As far as I am concerned Rolex follow consumers instruction even for vintage (which go to HQ for servicing). I can't tell for Omega.
Best is to go to Omega and ask directly what they can/will do. That won't cost you hands or dial in asking only. 馃槈

I think the most important detail here is where you are located? I'm sure there are enough members here that can find you a very well recommended watchmaker to help in any part of the world.

@Archer consistently helps out members here and is a great guy.

321's are "Bienne only", so there's no doubt it would go to Switzerland if whatever service center you take it to is properly following procedures.

As for asking Omega, I suspect the only answer you will get is "send it in" so they aren't going to tell you much without seeing the watch.

As for Rolex following instructions...well let's just say that like Omega, they have their policies. If you send a watch to either brand asking "don't replace the hands" and they didn't replace them, that means there's nothing wrong with the hands, and they wouldn't have replaced them anyway. If they feel that the hands may cause a problem, you won't have a choice, as they will replace them. Either that or if you are lucky, they will send it back without service...but even that is a risk...all it takes it for someone not to get the message and the value of your watch is greatly reduced. At the very least, Omega will return your parts, but Rolex throws all the tritium dials and hands they remove in a big drum, and it's sent for disposal, so you don't get anything back.

If you value originality, for mid-tier brands like Omega or Rolex, the last place you want to send it is the brand service center.

As others have already suggested get a recommendation for an independent watchmaker near the area you live. The last watch I sent to a Rolex Service Center was almost 15 years ago. I asked them not to replace the hands, the crown, the dial, nor the bezel insert. They insisted on replacing the insert and the hands. However, I refused to authorize and they refused to service the watch. I sent the watch to be serviced by an independent.
The bezel insert had a few very light scratches and a very small minuscule indentation near "55" mark... the hands, I have no clue why they insisted on replacing other then the fact they are tritium. At least they didn't want to replace the dial...LOL

I just got a call back from Omega Service in Hong Kong.

They confirmed it will go to Switzerland and that for exterior parts they will honor requests to not replace (within reason) but for movement parts they cannot guarantee they will ask me for approval nor will they guarantee they will return the original part to me.

This is clearly important for things like the clutch bridge and regulator index which differ significantly based on the production year (it specifically mentions this in omega 's speedmaster book!!)
