I saw there’s a NAWCC event coming up that I’m considering going to, but I’m not a member yet (they have a trial for $54 that gives access to the event) and would like to get others’ input on a few things before I decide:
1) are these things worth going to? are there ever any decent vintage (edit: wrist, not pocket watch) pieces at the “marts”?
2) has anyone been to the Mid Eastern Regional specifically? worthwhile or no?
3) is anyone going to the Mid-Eastern Regional this year? If I go, I’d be in for a GTG lunch or something. DM me.

Thanks in advance for the input!

I've never been to that one. Sometimes there are decent WWs at the marts, but it is a total crapshoot. Along with the membership comes the opportunity to interact with your local chapter. I don't know how active they are in your neck of the woods, but that's the main reason I maintain my membership.

Been some years since I been to one. Use to go to a NAWCC mart every other month when I lived close enough for chapter 5 and been to the silver dollar regional and the Pasadena regional the last one I went to was after the price jump on vintage watches and picking was slim. Miss the days when prices were good. The larger regionals you mite get lucky and find a deal. But they are good place to see rare vintage watches you only drooled at on the forum and see them in person even if you can’t afford them. Remember the first Pasadena regional I went to saw a Heuer Bund was out of money so passed but made me want one and I did for a cheaper price down the road. With the Covid thing and my age it will be a while until I feel good going to one mite be a good thing if you go less people cheaper price since some of the sellers mite lower the price so they don’t have pack up there stuff to take home.

We went to 23 NAWCC regionals, and two nationals over the years that I was a member. Mostly in the Pacific North West, but two in Colorado. Our first regional was in Portland, Ore., in 1984. The last one was about 2010, in Spokane. Between those years, the Internet had a huge effect on the choices and prices at these marts. And not in a good way. But there are seminars that are usually worthwhile. And national chapters (i. e. Tower Clock chapter) often have their meetings at regionals. The only way to gauge whether these regionals work for you is to attend one. But I have to say that 90% of my watch collection has been built close to home, not at NAWCC marts. My library has been built at these regionals, over the years. And I have bought lots of scrap watch movements, for parts.

Please let us know how it goes. I have a wedding in NY this weekend, otherwise I would also be interested in attending.

Haven't been to once since about 2000 (when eBay was really starting to bite into the selection) and I was selling Girl Scout cookies at my dad's table (he had actual watch/clock related stuff 😁). My recollection is that it was mostly an industry mart, lots of parts, tools, books, projects, but little that was "consumer ready". But you don't know until you go.

This Omega I got for 1400 at the Pasadena Reginal but some years ago don't expect that price. The same seller had about 8 of them for sell at the time.

This is so cool a WW1 aircraft clock you can imagine a WW1 dog fight in the air another thing I got from chapter 5 mart.

Got this Seth Thomas no2 at the Pasadena Reginal got it on the last day got it a little cheaper the seller did not really want to load it up to take home.
You just don't know what you will find I collect anything time related not just wristwatches. The Pasadena reginal had the most vintage wristwatches than most or use to but also a large variety of clocks and pocket watches. Been to two silver dollar reginal held in Sparks Nevada the last one was a disappointment.

I went to the York PA National convention a little while back...picked up a few things Omega and Rolex. Mostly American watches and a lot of pocket watches and clocks...I think still worth a look though. Busy this weekend otherwise I'd go!

I ended up going. It was probably 50% clocks, 25% pocket watches, and 25% wrist watches. The mart was fairly big, though, and there were some quality watches (highlights below). I came home empty handed as prices were about what one would expect (or more) and I didn’t see anything I had to have.. but it was nice to see some watches in person after way too long.
