    Hi all.
I’ve got a 40mm Speedy day date Chrono and keen to try switching my bracelet for a NATO. Most NATOs seem to come in either 20mm or 18mm. Would I just get the 20mm for my Speedy which has 19mm at lugs? And if so can I just use the same existing spring bars or is it safer to get the curved spring bars to allow for the extra 1mm.
Appreciate any thoughts on this pls.

Hi Fonzie, wouldn't do that if I were you. Look for a nato in 19mm instead. It is true that not all nato's are exactly cut at the indicated width but best to look for a quality nato in the right size. Standard spring bars should be fine. You may have to get used to wearing your watch on a nato, not everyone likes it... I have several but never use them for a long period.

No problem 20mm strap with curved springbars available from an OB. It’s how the OEM is done.

Yup. Some will not wear 20mm nato on 20mm nato straps without them. But in the case of a 19mm the curve adds a little more distance so it doesn’t bunch up. Even then I’ve put a 22m on a 20mm with straight bars and it works. 96943014-C22F-442D-B3E8-7026C972BA8C.jpeg

    Thanks.
So when you put the 22mm on a 20mm watch doesn’t it create extra stress on the spring bars, or can they handle this?

I didn’t see a huge issue but I only did it as I was not shipped the correct 20mm strap in time for the BMW event at the Historics. I would not normally do it.

There are plenty of 19mm NATOs on eBay.

+1 to this. Was in the 5th Avenue OB in NYC to buy a Snoopy strap for my Pro and was chatting with one of their watchmakers about options for my 60th anniversary Speedy (which has 19mm lugs) and he mentioned using an OEM Nato with curved spring bars. Fit is near perfect. Please excuse my iPhone pictures.
