Many of you know about the Zenith A Cairelli CP-2 created for the Italian Air Force.

I was fortunate to purchase one last year, and it's my favorite watch.

I've posted various times on this forum about it, including https://omegaforums.net/threads/recording-the-tic-toc-of-my-watches.29465/ where I recorded the sound of it.

So I was thrilled when I heard there was going to be a re-issue of this watch. I'm not exactly certain why I want a re-issue when I have the original. Part of it, probably, is that I get most of the coolness of the original, but I would feel heart broken if I make a scratch it really bad, or drop it on its head. I saw the video of it from Baselworld this spring, though it seemed to also be a super secret, and it was very hard to find any information about it. I put in my order anyway.

I received my Chronodata Tipo CP-2 a week and a half ago. It is 1 of 1000.

    Each watch on my wrist:

I also took some pictures to compare the two watches.

They are pretty similar. The new one, being an El Primero movement, has the subdials closer to each other. I know some of you think that makes it cross-eyed, but I think it's just fine.

I'm please as punch, and I hope that you all the like the pictures to show you the new watch and compare it with the original.

Do they refer to it as the "Zenith Automatic"?

Thanks @jsaen for the write up and photos. I was hoping someone would do some comparison photos of the original vs re-issue. I assumed it would be ages before that happened, so thanks for doing it so soon after release. The cases look the exact same size, are the lugs on the re-issue slightly more drooped? Are the bezels the exact same dimensions, the notches look wider on the re-issue.

Very nice watches the both of them. Congrats

    Mother & daughter!

That's a very nice acquisition
That's by far one of the best modern Zenith and your Cairelli exemple is stunning!

Thanks for the pictures and may you wear both in good health!

Thank you for sharing the comparison images, and congrats on the ownership of two wonderful pieces. Seeing them side by side further reinforces my desire for the vintage version. What a great watch!

It appears this watch has finally gotten official released since its finally on zenith's website, as well as several blogs. I didn't know that was going to happen.

It's been confusing; I first saw a video from Baselworld and put in my order. I was told they would announce it I July and release it in November. I did y hear anything else, and the in august I asked my dealer the story and was told it's still a hush hush secret and it will be announced and released in November

Two weeks ago I got a phone call that my watch was in. I didn't know it was still a secret, but there still wasn't much info. Very confusing.

Thanks, Jaesen. It appears quite long lug to lug...does it feel that way on your wrist? KC

Lug to lug it is 52 mm. It's the same size as the original. I think those are my biggest watches. I think the feel fine but maybe I'm too influenced by how much I lie the watches.

Thanks for comparing the 2. I've never been able to pick up an original CP-2, mainly due to price. ;-) Nice to see them side-by-side.
