My sister has a vintage gold cap over sterling Seamaster 501 2846-2848. Does anyone have advice for value or the best place to sell it? Thank you!
Hi KristenAnn, I'm afraid your watch has been redone and not that well, I'm afraid. Most of the value is whatever the sentimental value to you is. Try to pop off the back and post a photo of the caseback and the movement to see if we have any gold or parts value. I believe your gold-capped example from the mid-fifties is worth a hundred or so, plus your memories. Hi Kristen. It's not worth much to collectors as the dial has been repainted and the luminous material has been replaced in the hands and on the dial. You should list it on eBay in a straight auction and let it run to completion. Might get a couple people who want it enough to have a small bidding war.
Thank you so much everyone for your advice and expertise! Disappointing, but good to know. Thanks! Happy Holidays! Kristen
