I got this Rolex Submariner 5513 recently and the overall condition is very good. My only concern is that it looks like it has been relumed already. I don't know if the attached photos would suffice for resident experts to discern whether or not it has been relumed? Thanks.
Photos are fuzzy but looks OK to me from what I can see - does it glow in the dark though ? If it does for more than a few seconds, then it likely is - can you post clearer pics though ?
I 'm not expert but when compared to mine , this is a kind of too white . Need more experience opinions . Have photo for your information . Mine is serif dial 1969-1970 . Hope this can give your some info.
the dial appears to be a nice meter first with puffy marker, but the hands looks relumed or serviced replacement
will need to know which parts glow and for how long and the serial number. The 1967 5513 sill glows briefly after exposure to bright light and in daylight the hands and dots on dial occasionally appear green...but this is only on a select serial number range.
agree, looks to be "puffy nipples" 1967 serial should be near ~182xxxxxxx greenish tint in some lighting and glow after charging, normal and expected from these. Been theorized that Rolex used stronger tritium mix in these hands are definitely relumed
Soft-focus pics make it difficult, but like some others have remarked, the hands appear to be replacements.
Many thanks for the information sir. The serial number is 1607xxx and it still glows briefly after exposure from sunlight. The lumes also are a very pale shade of green under natural light.
Fuzzy pics but I'm guessing the dial is ok. Could you post the first few digits of the serial no.? There were 3 variations of lume that Rolex used during this period. "Barely there" painted on, which can easily be confused for a washed dial, Domed, and flat. Yours looks like the domed type. Check this website out. The amount of material does lead one to believe it has been relumed. However, an expert should be able to remove the old lume before applying the new stuff.
Nice even puffiness like this (quantity of lume) is no indication of re-luming. And from the photos (indistinct as they are) you would definitely not want to remove this. I would think most collectors would be happy the way it is.
