Unless I am blind...

I did this also, starting with 26.. .... and it said 1968 August and like yours, 321 movement.

I'll try to see the watchmaker today and confirm and serial number. I sure appreciate all the input.

Omega serial stamping can be very deceptive. It’ll likely be 28m, the 8s often look weird. It can’t be any earlier than 26.55m as otherwise it couldn’t be a 861 and it shouldn’t be 26m on a -69 unless it’s had a bridge or movement swap. If it’s not 28m then something is wrong.

I think you need to look at it with a loupe or get a better picture with multiple light sources to remove shadows. I would bet that it is a 8 on there.

The shape of part (can’t remember the name) is a 861 part an not a 321 part. So it would be extremely odd if it would be a “5” on there. Notice how the 861 is softer in its shape and the 321 a bit sharper.

never say never with the 60's omega parts bin manufacturing line, but 28m makes the most sense.

I believe it was Archer who that said Omega now demands some old parts when providing watchmakers with new - maybe it was just for signed parts, I don’t recall. So that might be something to be aware of

Yes, there are a few different scenarios when you must return the old part to get a new one...

1 - Some modern LE's - in some, but certainly not all cases, some parts are exchange only for the LE's. So for example while a Mitsukoshi dial can be bought without sending an old one back, a Silver Snoopy dial cannot be ordered ion it's own - you must return the old dial.

2 - Parts with serial numbers - if a part wears out that has a serial number on it, you can't get a new one without sending the old part back for exchange. Clearly this is because Omega doesn't want duplicate serial numbers out there.

3 - Selected parts - in some cases, for example the winding wheels for the Cal. 55X series of movements, these are now only available on an exchange only basis. So where I used to send the worn parts back to the customer when I replaced one, I can't do that any longer - I have to keep the one I replace and send it to Omega in order to get another one. These are really an exception though, and off the top of my head this is the only part that is like that that I can think of right now.

Cheers, Al

Amazing watch, I like the dial, bezel and hands. For the plexiglass I should look for another one.

Thank you Sir, I think that's going to be the plan.

Crazy how the ‘8’ looks like a ‘5’ in the other pics 😵‍💫

But that once cost me 120 bucks and an extract stating some pimp-of-persia golden-rubee’d watch I most certainly did not have...

Yep, I with you there. I believe you answered one of my future questions. I was reading the fine print on the extract from Omega that you were out your money and the extract if the numbers didn't jive. I'm feeling a little better about a service and an extract after nailing the serial number down.

...and the pictures. My golden-rubee extract was before they changed it, where it was just mandatory to enter a serial number and nothing more. That has changed.

I'm feeling a little better about a service and an extract after nailing the serial number down.

I would say that its all looking good and you should have total peace of mind 👍

...my guess would be that it says 28427... From experiences with serial numbers it is sometimes hard to tell difference between "6" and "8".

My attempt to milk the image

I originally thought it was an 8 too. Now, I think it’s a 5

It must be the shadow. Or smoke and mirrors 😉
