Hello! I bought a seamaster from "75. It is an automatic with 565 caliber. What do you think about it? What would be your suggested price for it - I am curious if I payed too much or too litle ? I also got the papers - original guarantee paper with the receipt (including signatures and stamps of the seller) I bought i Thanks! Jan
Yes, that's the case reference number - and you can be sure of it. The only thing we didn't discuss while looking at this was what the serial number on the movement is. It might have been bought in '75, but I bet it was made before then. Just want to confirm my suspicion.
OK I found it. It is written on the guarantee card. 335 354xx I didnt write the last two numbers - because it might not be safe to put it on the web?
No worries. Most of us leave off the last 3 even though it might not matter. Your watch's movement is from 1971 - which is correct for a 565. Omega started using the 1000 series in 1972. I was concerned for a minute when you said 1975.
Thanks! I am quite calm now. Obviously it stood on the shopshelf and was sold 4 years after the manufacture. I will take it to the watchmeister next week to check if everything inside is OK. So, I would be really happy if you would give me some opinions of what is a good price for that kind of watch? It is my first "expensive" watch and sometimes I think that maybe I payed too much for it Is that kind of watch interesting to the watch colectors?
You paid a fair price. And it is possible that the watch sat in stock at the store for several years. I just got an IWC Portofino that was 4-ish years old but was still new in stock at the dealer. This particular Seamaster series is very popular. Take a look around the watch forums and you'll see various incarnations of the same style - the 168.022 with the chronometer caliber 564, the 168.023 chronometer caliber 751, and the 166.032 caliber 750.
Just reviving my old topic. My Seamaster is doing good, although the leather band is falling apart. It was not the original one offcourse, as you can see on the pictures it is 18mm, but I would rather get 20mm as it is still room for it. Where should I buy the most authentic band for it? I would like to have one that would be the most identical to the original one from 1971. Maybe some ebay advice as I live in EU. Thanks! Jan
Jan, I think this might be 19mm rather than 20mm lugs. You can probably jam a 20mm in, but it might be a bit bunched up. If you are looking in the uk for high quality straps, watchobsession.co.uk is a good starting point - they stock a lot of 19mm Hirsch straps (who apparently make the OEM omega straps) for a lot less than OEM. Find a style you like on a similar watch in the WRUW thread, and look it up....
Thanks for the link Mothra. WRUW is? I am buying a strap without a buckle because I have original one (so I do not throw away new buckles) Or they sell it only with buckles?
WRUW is the "what are you wearing" thread under open discussions and most straps are sold with a buckle. For some nice retro looking straps I would also suggest Kelaran USA on eBay...they sell high quality straps at very good prices. I have several of their straps on my vintage watches and am quite happy with them.
eBay tries by default to detect your location and limit searches to your area, which in your case is probably outside of the US, it does the same thing to me, you have to enable worldwide items
