Gentlemen
I bought this in auction yesterday, I paid £167 including commission. A few people had been looking at it but nobody bid for it. I have 4 Geneves and am no expert but it "felt" right. I couldn't open it at the auction because I didn't have a sharp enough blade to get in but I bought it anyway, if only for its elegance.
I opened it today and I attach the photos. Its serial number (on the calibre) is 9619325, making it approximately 1939 if it is right. It has the number 10344223 inside the caseback.
It seems in quite good shape for its age. The crystal is cracked and there are a few minor marks on the face. It keeps good time. In fact it has been running since I picked it up yesterday afternoon, so probably a good 30 hours so far on one wind.
I would love to know whether it is real - it has a most unusual (to me) calibre. Not copper-plated but 8-sided (one of those ladies' calibres set into a man's watch?). Anything you can tell me would be great.
(No picture of the back of the watch, but it is plain steel, no markings)
[BTW I don't buy watches to sell - I have 9 nephews and they will each get a watch when the time comes!!]
Thank you!
