My new 145.012. 2nd vintage Speedmaster. I think they call this a “full set”

@gemini4 What is your very considered opinion regarding flat or tear-drop chrono hands on a 145.012-68?
Mostly flat but either, as in the 145.022-68, is acceptable.

Thus my late date 145.022-68 SN 27.xxx.xxx born June 27, 1969 should have a flat bottom chrono hand as it has. Yes?

Great find indeed. And very interesting and informative to me.
If presumed “all original”, it shows an early 145.012-67, approx February 1968 production, with the newer chrono hand and crown.
145.012-67 are generally seen in two movement number ranges. 2607Xxxxx (April - August 1968 production) the largest group and 2500xxxx the earliest. Also a bit of 265xxxxx (October 1968 production, my latest example) just before the 145.012-68 kicked in (November 1968 for mine).

Well done!

Okay, now I'm confused. The OP says original owner, not never serviced. Could the hand and crown have been part of a later service?

Very nice catch. It isn’t a transitional?
It’s a 145.012. The transitional is a 145.022 with the metal logo and hour markers of the 321 watches. Ie identical to a 145.012 externally.

They can, and they are.

Congratulations to you and also to the original owner who managed to keep everything together after 50 years. Love the box as well.

I’m sure that as the buyer’s son grows up to be a wise man he will eventually learn “ignorance is bliss”.

You'll be surprised, but to the majority of earth's population a 5 figure sum added to their bank account balance is a much more appealing proposition than an old watch thrown in a drawer...

This one also came from the original owner's grandson who had 0 interest in keeping it...
Lucky me! 😁

I’m not hanging around with the right sons or grandsons. Great finds all around. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
