·Yes, they are very finicky to get set up and properly balanced, but once that is done they are amazingly accurate. The best advice that I can give for trouble free operation is to make sure that the clock is level, keep it out of direct sunlight, and in a room where there is a daily temperature change of at least +/- 3 degrees.

·That's the same model I have except mine has the square dial. Back then the retail was $125. Mine still has the original bellows scratch marked as 1963.

·They are actually quite easy to pick up on eBay at very reasonable prices. Unfortunately (for sellers), they depreciate like stones. Repairs are expensive (prohibitively so if you send them to JLC), parts are becoming increasingly restricted, and the independents who are really qualified to repair them are relatively few. All of that said, it's worth the time and self-education to find a good one. They are a miraculous piece of engineering and really are beautiful timepieces.

·Nice! I found one a few months ago for $400 at an antique store. It's been running for about 6 months straight, no winding. It's a bit fast, so every week I have to push the minute hand back about 2 minutes. Looks great on my mantle.
