Hello, I have just bought this Omega Seamaster 166.010. It is in reasonable condition. The dial shows some spots, but nothing serious (can this be restored by a professional watchmaker?). The case doesn't seem to be polished too much. The 'S' in Seamaster is already the later style with more rounded curves, but the crown is still the ealier one. I haven't received the watch yet and the pictures came from the seller. I don't have a photo of the movement, but the watch was serviced in 2015 and apparently runs accurately. The description mentioned a quick date set feature, so I assume it is a Cal. 565 (or 563?). Roger
I can barely see any spots on that dial and if it were mine I wouldn't touch it. The crown is dead right. It looks a really nice watch, don't do anything to it at all!
Yes, it shares 562 and 565 but not 563. As stated by the OP, it has a quickset date so it must be 565.
Thank you all for your comments. I am glad to hear that everything is as it should be. I am looking forward to receiving it and will post some wrist shots soon. I also particularly liked the crosshairs dial and prefer the look of the 166.010 with the earlier cloverleaf type crown. Next may be a chronometer version 168.024.
Just got the information from the seller that the watch is on its way to me and that the bracelet type is 1502 with end links No. 11 and No. 12 on the clasp side. I think that 1502 fits well with the period of the watch itself. I just noticed that the last row of "rice beads" appears to turned upside down (outside is inwards pointed and vice versa). The rice beads have a gap that is normally not on the outside of the bracelet. It can be seen in the last photo I posted. This should be easy to correct (I hope).
Yes, that's what I meant. I was not sure if it is just a matter of turning this part or if it was damaged.
I received it! Beautiful. It was only very slightly polished and works like a charm. The spots on the dial that were visible on the first photos are hardly noticeable under normal light condition. It indeed has the quick date feature. Only the crystal is not an Omega signed one, but I have a mint spare crystal from Omega (with lens, which I personally prefer).
That's a beautiful watch. I prefer the date lens crystal as on your 168.024 as it looks more vintage. I will keep watching for a nice one.
Me too!...sorry, but I'm going to re-start this thread with a similar acquisition... A 166.010 with the non-quickset 562 movement. What drew me to this particular one were the following: the PROS 1) The non-chronometer makes it relatively affordable ($500 range) 2) I love the crosshair dial (reminds me of my old Pie Pan connies I used to collect) 3) the older "coat hanger" S in the "Seamaster script" I thought he crown was wrong, but I'm seeing more of these flat crowns on these older ones (this is a 20XXX... SN, dating it to around 1963. It's a bit harder to wind, but I think I'll keep it as it's original 4) I like the bold bezel. What I don't like: the CONS 1) some dust on the dial and seconds hand that I'll have my watchmaker clean off gently 2) the crystal is wrong and the mag lens is not center over the date window. I'd like to find a correct one that's also a bit flatter. 3) yeah, I didn't get the BOR bracelet, but I'm waiting for a nice gray B&S leather strap that should work nicely.
A magnifier crystal is not listed for this case reference, however the crystal that is listed does come in a magnifier version... 063PZ5031L No guarantees it will line up any better, but that's the number to try... Cheers, Al
