A Zodiac Aerospace Jet. I think these are super cool. Made for pilots, the hour hand only goes around the dial once per 24 hours - so it takes some practice to read the watch easily. Hodinkee had one up for USD 1,900, stating “Launched in 1962, the Hermetic was not initially called the Aerospace Jet, but it did already offer a very legible 24-hour dial. "Aerospace Jet" was actually added in the early 1970s after the manufacture tried several other naming conventions. The 24-hour dial is obviously a major component of its identity, but so is its celebrated snap caseback, which featured an unusual water-resistant system that was already supported in the Zodiac Sea-Wolf. This feature of course explains the name "Hermetic" as well as the fish engraved on the caseback. In short, this Zodiac is a rare combination of assets, boasting a thin profile and a tough, water-resistant exterior, making it a worthy timepiece.” I’m really happy with condition. Hands and dial are original and in great shape. Dial has yellowed beautifully with age. Hands have great colour, ranging from dark brown to light steeled blue. Case is in very good condition, maybe never polished. A couple of early rust spots but nothing major. Only real flaw is a slight scratch in the metal casing joinder where it looks like someone tried to prise it open. Barely visible to the naked eye though. I’m delighted. Merry Christmas to all!
I was just told by an expert that the little ‘lip’ where it looks like someone tried to prise open the case is actually original, they all come like that to help open the case. So now I’m even happier with condition. Pretty much perfect!
