    Hello all,

I am a self identified newbie. My knowledge of watches is limited and so just curious to learn what I can about the watch I inherited from my grandfather. I have searched for other watches like it on the net and have found similar but nothing exactly like it any info is much appreciated. The watch given that it is a heirloom is not for sale but I would be curious as to the value.

If the dial had Genève instead of Seamaster I'd be half inclined to believe it was original, but it's a re-painted dial done in a generic (sometimes seen on Genève's) style.

Based on the pics I'm not sure about the hour and minute hands, they could be generic replacements.

To know more about the watch, you need to read this and follow the instructions.

Value depends a lot on where you live.

Thank you for the reply. This would explain why I have had difficulty in finding anything just like it. Thanks for the insight.

It is most likely seamaster de ville 166.020 with re-painted. Try to open the back case.

The case back does not open, movement comes out from the front, you have a LOT to learn.

As mentioned the dial is repainted. I have a couple of Geneve's in the same style as this one, but the numbers (and minute markers) on this dial are crudely printed/painted on in comparison.

I was very confused about trying to remove the back. My grandfather had issues with seeing as he aged so I am wondering if he had someone paint the numbers...i was able to remove the top of the watch and it appears the hands have been painted black as you can see it bleed over the edge a bit. (See photo) Given that I am not real sure about what I am doing I am concerned about continuing to pull it apart. I appreciate all the wisdom you have all shared thus far.

If this is a sentimental exercise ....STOP! Take it to a watchmaker, have the movement and inside case photographed, have it serviced and check in.
