    IMG_2168.JPG IMG_2166.JPG IMG_2175.JPG Hi everyone,

My grandfather gave me one of his watches, an omega constellation, but I don't know much about it.
He once told me that it was bought on a trip in 1966.
I know I should unscrew the caseback to see the movement and the inner side of the caseback but I think it's better to leave it to someone who knows what is doing.
I took some pictures for you to see.

Any help or advice is deeply appreciated!
It's great to be part of this community from now on!
    Thanks,
    Pedro

Have someone who knows what they're doing open it. Get good, clear photos of the movement numbers and inside the case back for the best information. It looks like a 168.004 "hidden crown" Constellation. You can learn more here: http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/

    Hi Pedro
    Welcome to the forum
And congratulations on receiving a Connie - a handsome gift from your grandfather
As @efauser says a 'hidden crown' Constellation
I'm going to call a 168.010 hidden crown Connie rather than an .004 as the lugs look a little to widely spaced for an .004
A quick tell - if you pull the crown out does it change the date ?
If so it's a 564 'quick set' movement and more likely to be an .010
    Nice correct cross-hair dome dial
The 'hidden' crown has been replaced (it sticks out slightly) but it is the current correct one for the watch
Please get the watch serviced properly if it hasn't been (you can get the info inside then) and it should last you another 50 years
    Enjoy!
I have a very similar watch without cross hairs (any excuse to show my handsome trio again ;))

That is a very nice watch from your grandfather. He had good taste ;)

Definitely have a pro open the caseback, NOT a battery changing kiosk in the mall. They will probably damage something along the way.

As for the .010, I'm not so sure. My grandfather left me a 168.010. Cal. 564 (date changes when crown is pulled out) but it is not a hidden crown. I'm no expert at the references though.

Hello from a darker patinated cousin IMG_1681.JPG

I was wondering about the lug width. They do look a little wider but without anything to compare them to, I took the safe choice, knowing full well that you would chime in at some point.

    Wow ! That's some patina!
The crown has been replaced with wider version
You can get a smaller one that only protrudes a little like the OP's

Yeah - I saw the rear shot too but the 18mm strap would be snug against the lugs at the front as well
And I thought the lugs look to run at '53' and '12'
TBH on refelection the case back looks more like an .004

    Ok OP
See if the date changes Either
    by the quickset method
Or by moving the hands back through 9 and then through 12 again

Thank you all for your kind replies!
Ok, so it may be a 168.004 or a 168.010 right?
@Peemacgee when i pull the crown out the date doesn't change. I tried to turn the crown and found some resistance, I didn't force it.

Yes crown was replaced on mine. But it was replaced by Archer during a service so I'm assuming it's correct.

Hmm that doesn't sound too clever
Definitely think about getting it serviced in the near future

Yes, I'm definitely going to get it serviced in the near future!
I live in Portugal, so any Portuguese user that could recommend me a good watchmaker to get it serviced?
I also need to change the strap, this one is very beaten up... any advice on a nice brand or model that looks cool on this watch?

Thanks again for your help! Much appreciated!

For a strap measure between the lugs - very accurately- .004s are 18mm, .010s are 19mm
(Hence the close up pics and discussion of the lugs above)
Strap colour/style choice is personal - I like the black lizard grain Hirsch on my SS .010 but there is a much larger choice of 18mm straps out there than 19s

There are Portuguese members - do a search for Portuguese or Portugal and PM the members it throws up to ask if they can recommend a watchmaker for you

    Ok @Peemacgee!
    I'll do that.
I'll take some photos of the movement and the inner side of the case back when I get it to be serviced.

    Thanks again!
