these both belonged to his great grand father who served in ww2. He won't let me get the Omega opened, but model and date would be cool. Said he got the Omega in the 50s and the Hamilton in ww2

Well, it is a Seamaster 30! The caliber should be one of the 260 series, I would guess a 268 or 269. The date could be known thanks to the caliber serial member, but it should be later that 1962.

Looks like it says Seamaster 30 on the dial, so probably a Seamaster 30 from the early 60's.

By the way, your Hamilton is a Beldon model which was first offered around 1951.

To identify movements, one of my sources is RANFFT Watches (www.ranfft.de). it's a compiled database over many years.
include lots of additional info on various Mfg, calibres and even has pictures (to help with identification.
not all inclusive (what is??) but a reliable source.

for these Omega's his database shows some differences in the various calibre's

    family/generations:
    sub second:
    30 : 15 jewels, no shock protection
30T1: 15 jewels, no shock protection
30T2: 15 jewels, no shock protection
    30T2PC: 15 jewels, Incabloc
    260: =30T2 since 1949, 15 jewels
    261: 17 jewels, antimagnetic
    262: 17 jewels, excenter regulator
    265: 15 jewels, antimagnetic
    266,267: 17 jewels, antimagnetic
    268: ring- instead screw balance
    269: flat- instead Breguet-hairspring
    sweep second:
    30SC : 16 jewels, no shock protection
30T1: 16 jewels, no shock protection
30T2SC: 16 jewels, no shock protection
    30T2SCPC: 17/18 jewels, Incabloc
    280: =Omega 30SC T2 since 1949, 17 jewels
    281: 17 jewels, excenter regulator
    283,284: 17 jewels, antimagnetic
    285: ring- instead screw balance
    286: flat- instead Breguet-hairspring

if this info is correct, how did you arrive at the conclusion it was a Cal 269? I'm curious.

    thanks

Seamaster 30s came in these configurations.
with cal 286 - sweep second
with cal 269 - sub second.

So assuming the dial is original to the watch, & his friend's grandfather didn't change anything else apart from the crown, it should be a cal 269.

The SM30 should look very nice when cleaned up and serviced.
I'd like to see the dial in better light, one of my favourite patterns.

    Hi AveConscientia

I recently purchased a watch very similar to your Seamaster 30 as my first Omega, it's due back from a clean and service tomorrow. The case is a bit worn but I've no problem with that, it's 2 years older than I am and has survived a lot better than I. Anyway mine is indeed a cal 269 movement with a case ref 14389.

If you haven't found this link already it's worth a read, this is how good it can look

Here are a couple of before pictures of my watch; looking forward to getting it back tomorrow.
