Carol from the UK posted a while ago some pictures of an old Omega that her husband had been given from a friend.
When I saw it, it was an immediate WOW feeling! I didn´t know anything about the model, but I thought that it looked extremely cool.
Carol wrote that she was considering to sell it, so I thought that it must be OK to ask at least. I approached her and asked if she had decided to sell the watch, and in that case if she had a price in mind. Actually they had decided to sell it, and yes, there was a price they had in mind, and I thought it to be reasonable, so I accepted! A few days later the watch showed up. The mainspring was broken, and the bezel locking crown was gone, but besides that in very wellkept condition. After some searching on the net, I found Antoine in Belgium, who was kind enough to provide the parts I needed to restore the bezel locking mechanism.
Today I received these photos taken by my watchmaker:
And the before picture:
I made some research too on the model: 2000 of these pieces were supplied to the british Air Ministery in the beginning of 1940, and was handed out to pilots and navigators in the RAF. It´s a thrilling thought that this one can have been on the wrist on a Spitfire pilot during the battle of Great Britain!
Thanks Carol for a very pleasant deal, and thanks Omegaforums for making it possible for me to add this gem to my collection!
Thanks also to Antoine in Belgium, and of course Ingemar, my magician of a watchmaker!
