Got my first vintage watch today. Took a few weeks to get it due to flight forwarding, etc. Here's what I know from the Omega website:

    "MALAYAN FORCES"
    • CK 2444
    • FEATURES
    • International collection 1945
    • Case material Stainless steel
    • Vintage Watch Watchcase type Screw-in
    • Bracelet Leather
    • MOVEMENTS
    • Movements Manual winding (mechanical)
    • Caliber Number 30 T2 RS
    • TECHNICAL DATA
    • Water resistance 30 meters

    Source.

I bought the watch from this site. You can see the post here.

    I have a few questions:

    - The difference between the broad arrow and MoD hands.
    - Does the dial look original or has it been retouched in any way?
    - What type of preventive maintainance should I do?
    - Is the rust visible in the pics below a potential problem?
    - I tried to get a Omega Archive Extract but they said they didn't have a record of this watch. Not sure what it could mean. Should I be concerned?

    Thanks to all in advance.

Does Omega have records for every military issue watch they made? If so yeah it's not good news. Sometimes these old things just don't have records.

I'm curious what some of the experts here have to say about this example... Obviously it can be in better cosmetic shape but does everything else line up?

Do you have a picture of the inner and outer caseback and movement?

Here's two. I blurred out the numbers since I've seen people do that here. Is that even necessary?

Looking past the wear and tear, I think it could be all correct at first glance. It doesn't have the most typical hands, but military watches were often issued with more than one type of hand.

I don't know what the Extract cancelation means.

Dial looks to have had the numbers touched up but they do flake sometimes so hard to tell for sure. Those are mod hands. Here is a photo of mine with the hands they come with from factory. Mine has a slight flaking on 4.

Edit: looked at other mod hand examples and those don’t look correct.

I've read that the original ones were the broad arrow and later the MoD switched them to these for some reason?

I think they swapped them out as needed during servicing. But I believe that @chadpowe11 is pointing out that the hands on your watch differ from other MoD hands. For example, if you Google MoD hands, you will see that they often have needle tips.

That's a pretty good catch. Hadn't noticed the difference. Thanks!

Correct they don’t look correct as per other examples with mod hands. Have to ask did you pay €2400?

Yes. Based on the pictures and posting I've found, i might have substantially overpaid. I bought it from a seller on the OF since I trust the systems and community here. What would be the fair price for this watch?

Crazy price for that condition and don’t like the look of the dial. Can you make a close up shot of the upper dial?

Agreed overpriced based on dial and incorrect hands. This price would be fair if dial was better and original hands.

Here's another close up. There's something weird with the "2". They don't seem to be the same.
