My first stolen item in 22 years

I’ve been on eBay for 22 years and yesterday I received an empty package for the first time. A watch purchased from Europe was in my mailbox with one corner of the envelope ripped open. Inside just the bubble wrap and elastic band that the watch was wrapped in. I suspect it was someone at USPS but obviously it could have been sent that too. The seller had put it in a letter sized envelope with no customs declaration no return address. I opened a case with eBay so I’ll be ok but I guess I’m fortunate considering the stories I’ve read here about theft and scamming.

stay safe everyone

Damn. Sorry to hear about that. Hopefully they'll be able to resolve the matter quickly.

Smart tactic if the seller sent it like that, didn't cross my mind, but as you are a buyer you'll be fine.

This also kinda blew my mind, then I checked and I'm at 18 😁

That's awful, very sorry to hear that. Obviously it's a terrible idea to send a watch in an envelope. Always use a box, and a box within the box is best.

Definitely a box within a box. I am very sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience.

Yeah, what Dan said. The seller sent a watch in a bubble-wrap envelope? International? Madness.

Silly if not stupid, if you ask me.

I received my ( not inexpensive) 18k Connie in an A5 Jiffy bag inside a flimsy Fedex bag.
Sent from Alex (A very experienced seller) in Mexico, all the way to Dubai.
Fortunately, it arrived safely but I was pretty appalled when I received the package.

Sorry to hear about this Cap’n. This is the scenario we all dread when we buy online. Losing the watch is disappointing but the hassle of trying to get a refund is just insult to injury.
A McIntosh stereo service provider told me once that someone sent him a MC2105 power amp (85lbs) across the country in a single weight Staples Office Supply box that was 2ft too big for it on all sides, with absolutely no packing material whatsoever- they literally placed it in the box and put a single line of tape over the top and bottom. It arrived in pristine shape and was even centered in the box, like someone had lovingly carried it across country by hand.
The lack of fore-thought that some people have really blows my mind.

It was a $200 Zenith and honestly I’d rather have the watch than a refund. It was a gold capped Captain Cal 2522 auto. I’ll be watching eBay for it

When I buy a watch online I always specify the packaging required, has worked so far.
