Hey all, I have just acquired my first Speedmaster and really have fallen for the vintage feel of this watch. It came to me via a wanted on another forum, I had a couple of offers from other members with one being a virtually brand new watch which did tempt me as my budget didn't allow me to buy a vintage Speedmaster. Then a PM came through with the offer of a 1974 watch (serial is 3284****) but watch head only, just been serviced via a well respected independent where it had new hesalite, crown, seals, price was good but still a bit rich for my budget, 1974 is my birth year so this watch had extra pull for me plus from the images I could see it was a step dial and everything else looked correct including the unpolished case and greying bezel. So I done the deal and I'm very happy, at the same time an original 1171 with 633 end links (11 in the clasp) came up at a reasonable price so that was purchased too, I really like it on the bracelet but prefer the comfort of leather for now. Next up was an extract of archives which will hopefully reveal its a 74 but if not I'm loving everything about this Speedmaster so its a keeper for sure. Hopefully nothing stands out to the expert here so here is a few images -
I just got my first Speedmaster last week and it’s a 78. Head only. If you’d like to sell along the bracelet you found, I’m interested. I’m a leather strap guy too but I’d like to try a bracelet out.
Yes it’s gone a really nice colour, in some light it looks like a metallic charcoal and other like as you say a deep metallic blue..
Bracelet is really nice, comfortable, looks great but like you as it’s new then I’m just finding a look that I prefer.. Not going to sell the bracelet, it looks good as I said plus it adds to the overall package. When you do search out a bracelet make sure it’s an original 1171 and not a reissue, it will have a trapezoid shape logo on the clasp (not square) and screws in the links not pins plus an 11 in the clasp not 32..
