First thanks to all the OF contributors. Posts both old and new have been so helpful to me. Plus speedmaster101.com.

This arrived from Mr. FedEx today.

I would like to have it fully serviced, replace any incorrect parts, and wear it!

I am going to my local OB today to order an extract of the archive. There is some concern since the serial number is starts with 3992 and the case back says -78.

If the movement and caseback agree, I’d like to source the correct parts before sending it off to a watchmakers.

1). Is this crown incorrect? I see “serifs” on the feet and don’t know if that’s wrong for -78.

2). The pushers seem slightly rounded on top and not completely flat. From my study that sounds like they may be wrong. But I’ve had trouble finding an A/B photo to judge.

    3497AE6C-3796-4F01-AB86-A0AEDAE40E70.jpeg

3). Not a question. I’ve sourced this DNN bezel to replace the service one. I think it looks in good enough shape to go with this dial and hands. Look okay? Well I guess that is a question.

4). I can not see an omega symbol in the crystal center under any light or from any angle. Likely non-omega replacement?

5). Do you see any indication that this dial is earlier and not correct for a -78. This watch was discussed in an earlier post and a member suggested that.

Thanks very much for any comments or suggestions as I am just learning. This forum has brought me much fun. I hope I can contribute going forward. And you can follow my development of an “entry level” vintage Speedmaster.

Thank you to OF member Drawarms who sold this watch to me.

I will post updates when I receive my extract.

Serial range is correct for a 78. Other than the service bezel you already replacing everything else looks fine to me. That said I have very limited knowledge
Its a very attractive dial. Congratulations

Looks like everything is right except for the bezel, which you seem on top of.

The crystal isn't original if there isn't the logo at the center, but I don't view that as too huge of a deal, especially if you intend on wearing it. I'm not really sure that a true correct crystal can be easily sourced, as my understanding is that even "new-old-stock" might have become brittle over time, if you can even find one. Of course you can get a new Omega crystal, which would only be distinguishable by the tiny differences in the logo engraving at the center, visible only under decent magnification.

The lume on that dial looks amazing. Thinking of selling my -74 to get one with slightly better lume shade, like that one . 10/10 props for the kick a** photos. Can we get a photo or two of the sides to see the level of polishing on the case pretty please!

Thanks for the very helpful comments and photo request Dupree. Watch was listed as “unpolished” so let me know what you think.

    Congrats, that's a stunner!
Case looks sharp, nice patina on the lume.
Like mentioned above, I wouldn't worry too much about an original crystal. If your OCD really needs one, a new one surely will do. Personally, I wouldn't pay top dollar for a NOS one.
The crown is definitely correct, pushers is always hard to tell without a side by side.

If you don't own the MWO book, my I suggest their "app / ibook"?
It's a pocket reference guide to Speedmasters, with a step by step identification program, and a list of components per reference.

    Enjoy your Speedmaster!

Very nice! That is the exact watch I would love to find in that type of condition. '78 was a very good year in my life and having such a watch would be awesome! Enjoy it, and for goodness sake wear it. In the end you're not taking it with you!

The case was polished in past, but very very litle. Case still looks great and fat !
Replace bezel and you have a beautiful watch!
