How about a little cold war satire , already noted above but a true classic & Peter Sellers at his finest .

"I am as sorry as you are, Dimitri. Don't say that you are more sorry than I am because I'm capable of being just as sorry as you are! So we're both sorry, alright? Alright..."

One of the best scenes when he (as an actor) had this phone call with Dimitri. I read somewhere once that he ad-libbed the whole thing.

I'll avoid any that have been mentioned:

Two semi-obscure period WW II films I have seen a few times and continue to enjoy:

The Cruel Sea
Ice Cold in Alex

An art film: The Dreamers

Why? Young Eva Green, of course!

Another good movie though it deviates from the the Milan Kundera novel:

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Anything by Quentin Tarrantino, but especially his recent dark comedy, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Leo DeCaprio, Brad Pitt and Magot Robbie are at their best . . . and others in supporting roles are very good.

I call this "The Unbearable Movie From Hell" personally. I think you must have to be in the "right" mood for this movie, and I have no idea what that mood might be, but I was certainly not it in when I sat through that many years ago...

Before you settle in to watch your favorite movie you may want to have dinner first.
Maybe take Sollozzo's advice: Try the Veal. It's the best in the city 😉

Was literally going to post the hunt for red October. There’s something so damn cool about submarine movies
I saw the other day that the Navy cooperated with and boosted Red October in response to how much "Top Gun" increased interest in naval aviation.

Sick sleazy flicks that make Eating Raoul look like Dr Shivago.
"Spider Baby" and the all time sickest "Singapore Sling". "Blood Sucking Freaks" while technically sicker is so poorly made its not even in the running.

Upper class perv films based on Tennessee Williams plays, "The Glass Menagerie" and "Suddenly Last Summer". Those along with "Mud Honey" may have sociological educational value. Many people in the south actually acted that way in the 50's. Still do in fact through less openly for the most part.

A much better film all the way round is "Thunder Road". A very realistic portrayal of moonshine runners. Based on stuff I saw a lot of as a kid living in the same areas, towns and city of Knoxville depicted in the film.
