Bubba Watson doesn't seemed to be concerned. RM 38-01 that retails for USD 825k

That was exactly my reaction. I think I said "What, a Speedmaster is qualified for space flight but can't survive a round of golf?" The point is that (and I didn't know this at the time, as I assume most people don't..) a golf swing generates over 100G of force. Plus the jarring effects of hitting the ground. The fact that it's a "dive watch" is irrelevant. You won't get any jarring movements or extreme g-forces diving. There's no need to consider buying a Sub - it's exactly the same.

But the fact of the matter is that Omega themselves were asked the question in the Omega Lifetime "The Golf Edition" magazine from a few years back. There's a whole feature dedicated to the forces of the golf swing and how the new (at the time) 8500 movement isn't affected by them. I've taken some pics of a few relevant passages. The third pic has a very important paragraph half way down...

Bubba Watson is a millionaire a hundred times over, and doesn't even buy his RM watches. Do you think he gives a ::censored::? :)

Thanks for posting, that's reassuring. I've played golf for 39 years...almost always with a watch on. Over 25 years of that was with a $250 Seiko dive watch. They'd last about 10 years, then I'd get a new one...never serviced, subjected to over 120 rounds of golf a year, jet fuel/hydraulic fluid/banged around or dropped a few times off the top of a helicopter. Then I got two Tag Formula 1's... didn't know anything about watches so had to learn the hard way. Quickly upgraded to my SMPc's this year through a fluke timing/pricing opportunity.

I'll just say - since I found out about this my SMPc hasn't seen a golf course. But it did give me a certain amount of justification in buying an 8500 PO... ;)

I looked at those & Seamaster 300 MC, only one that caught my eye was SMPc. I don't wear my blue one to the course anymore because I don't want to screw up another leather strap. The Hirsch Grand Duke is waterproof, but my sweat is corrosive and I don't want to buy another strap anytime soon. The color on the new one is sort of a burgundy brown mixture than beautifully compliments the blue dial, much nicer combo than the previous one I trashed.

I've been hesitant to take my SMP out on the course after my Seiko SkX009 started losing time, presumably due to my swings. Granted I am not Tiger ;) Any issues with your SMP losing time?

Both of mine have averaged about 1 second a day fast, and that's with one in the box and one on my wrist over-night. I work in an office so except for visiting the course 2-3 times a week, I lead a pretty dull lifestyle. I wear a second string quartz Tag Formula 1 to the gym 2-3x...but that's the only time I wear it, SMPc the rest of the week. ️

One of these two every day. Once every 2-4 weeks the dark side comes out to play... IMG_7590.JPG IMG_7591.JPG

My new friend, certainly not a 'beater', but a great everyday companion :)

I play 4+ hours of tennis per week wearing a mechanical watch, and I would agree it's probably tougher on watch than golf. In the past it has been the 1971 Speedy...

But for the last year or so it's been my Watchco SM300 that is my beater watch. It's for pretty much any outdoor activity, including concerts...

The article posted above is an odd one, but it seems only parts of it are posted so I'll withhold judgment. Let's just say the last thing I would be worried about when wearing an automatic watch playing golf or tennis would be the balance spring. The real danger to the watch comes from the inertia and shocks effect on the rotor. Stress to the axle or bearing are an issue, but even if everything stays intact the rotor can deflect and impact the movement.

    Cheers, Al

That it is my friend...I tried to convince myself that the older 114270 36mm was the way to go, but it just felt too small to my eyes. This one fits comfortably!

My beater for the gym & now the golf course, I guess. The NATO's colors are navy/olive/burgundy.

I play tennis around 4+ per week as well. Nice technifiber tennis racguet and of course your watch. Did you find any comfortable rubber bracelet for PO or Seamaster PRO I could use to play tennis with?

Not a rubber strap fan - I find they get too sweaty when doing any activity, so a nylon NATO works well for me.
