Seems only logical that I would brag about my garmin GPS and a flat foot crown on an Omega forum where watches in the excess of 100,000usd are found. 👍

This thread is merely to share my mishap with any UK residents so that they’ll guard against such misfortunes.

Well said. Thanks for sharing a great story and resolution! One night I heard a banging noise from my driveway. I went out the back door and around the house with a torch in one hand and a Sig Sauer in the other. Caught a thief laying halfway through the broken window. He ran for his life with a couple CDs in his hand and left my wallet safely sitting in the cup holder where I forgot it the night before.

This happens everywhere and I would guess that your country is safer than mine where we run around armed to the teeth.

Worst part is I might have to testify!

You should definitely give the CPS a ring if they want you to appear, there is zero evidential value you can offer beyond that statement... The number of times I've been warned for court only for the CPS to ask why I'm there when I turn up is... Many.

If they wish for you to appear go ahead.
The perp is a repeat offender, perhaps any victim testimony would go towards seeing that he gets a longer sentence at a tougher facility.
If he spends enough time behind bars perhaps he will be motivated to change his ways before he graduates to car jacking with violence.
A friend once said his kleptomaniac son was a natural born communist. Taking from those that had for those that felt they needed(him).
With as much lucre as he got from that single break in he's lucky he didn't OD that night.

Why brag at all ?……who here, do you need to impress ?

Those of us who are actually UK Nationals, are fully aware of the perils of living in any Metropolitan city in the World……At least here, we have very little chance of being shot to death……either by the Police…or a random nutter

Don't know why anyone is ragging on SgWatchBaron for merely mentioning the valuable pieces the thief missed. It shows how stupid and bungling the perp is.

It doesn't bother me one bit that any member here is proud of their possessions. I'm more than a little proud of my single run of the mill Omega De Ville even in its present beat up condition..

Being shot is preferable to having ones face destroyed by acid, which seems to be the new fad over there.

Umm not sure from where you come from but in 2016 there were apparently 38,000 gun related deaths in the USA. In the UK in the same year there were less than a thousand attacks utilising a corrosive substance, many which were not serious and none as far as I know lead to death. While this is a shocking figure, I know which I find most disturbing.

You have been reading ‘The Daily Mail’………

Try reading a Newspaper instead……

"

Then you never lived with a relative who's face was destroyed in a house fire.

  • "You have been reading ‘The Daily Mail’……"
  • If theres been anywhere near one thousand attacks with corrosive chemicals in the UK, with its much smaller population, then that would indicate a trend. The recent trial for multiple attacks in a matter of hours by the moped thieves made headlines over here as well.

25 years old, 21 convictions for 45 offences... I'm sure he's a lovely chap though. Let's hope the judge throws the book at him Baron!

So this person is innocent most of the time (21/45 CONVICTIONS).

Try not to conflate ‘sensationalist hyperbole’ that functions as ‘click bait’ …with actual facts…these are rare events

What exactly have 3rd degree burns, ( sadly rergettable ) … to do… with a perceived trend in acid attacks?…are they directly related ?

"Taken into considerations" ..... 21 convictions but 45 offences. Let's imagine our Scouse friend breaks into four cars in one street one night. There is clear evidence of his breaking into one of those cars and circumstantial evidence for the other three. The CPS successfully prosecutes for the one offence and, at sentencing, the perpetrator asks for the other three offences to be "taken into consideration". For admitting his guilt he gains some "credit", usually not receiving additional jail time at all, but removes the risk of later prosecution for those offences. The CPS and Police also like TICs because it makes their figures look better.

That means that in 21 appearances at court he's been convicted of 45 separate crimes, not that he was found not guilty on 24 out of 45 appearances.

The destruction of tissue is much the same, often worse with acid because most burn victims would die from that much damage and facial burns would be only part of the burn damage. My niece lost the skin of 60% of her torso along with almost all her face, neck and one ear and part of her scalp. Over 150 operations were required with hundreds of USAF aircrewmen donating skin for grafts.
Acid attacks destroy flesh in a more localized manner but blindness is common . Acid can in the worst cases destroy bone as well as flesh.

The Perceived trend of acid attacks is one perceived by UK police and statistics appear to back them up.

The size of the uk has no relation on whether there is an increasing trend in acid attacks. Unless the population is extremely small, a trend is a trend, whether the population is 30,000 or 300,000,000.

If you're talking about relative risk.

U.K. population 65 million.
Acid attacks around 800, very few deaths

US population 330 million
27,000 gun related injuries, 13,000 deaths.

Doesn't really compare.
