Hello, I my name is Telmond and I am new to this forum. I am very interested in the most recent Omega co-axial caliber watches with silicon mainsprings but I'm don't want the models that have been chipped. Any advice?

Is this actually being done with mechanical watches? RFID chips? For inventory control? I thought this was just an Apple Watch/ Apple Pay kind of thing.

Silicon balance spring, not mainsprings. As for watches being "chipped" with RFID tags that's not the case AFAIK...

Smart watches have near field technology like rfid, never heard of any mechanical watch with rfid.

    As Far As I Know

In other words, to the best of my knowledge, no mechanical watch that Omega makes uses such technology.

Fundamental misunderstanding of the use of silicon it seems.
You, Sir, need to put down the crack pipe and stop licking frogs.

If you already believe you know, then why ask?

By the way using it "in production" and "in the product" are two completely different things...

Id like to see an RFID chip survive a static discharge or thermonuclear pulse. The latter being the main reason I buy mechanical watches, to future proof myself.::stirthepot::

Don’t let RFID stop you from buying an Omega if you really like it. They are great watches and the RFID chip can easily be removed.

Not that complicated and can even be a DIY job if you’re willing to open the case back yourself. You’ll need have a good loupe & watchmaker tweezers with a very fine tip. No screws involved, the chips are held in place with a simple friction fit.

Will post instructions when I have more time - check back later.

Oh, and you’ll need a tin-foil hat as well.

That depends. Have you maintained the helium retention ring?

That is part of the whole wabi-sabi thing. Perfection is bad. Appreciate the RFID tag for the beauty of its flaws.

RFID chips are why I keep all my Omegas stored on top of rare earth magnets, the larger flat ones (just like the shape of the earth) work great. They really keep the government from checking how often I wind and set my watch. Stay out of my bedroom, government!!
