Now for something completely different from my last post: UFO sighting, brought to you by Girard-Perregaux (all original condition - no redial, no relume, no polishing).

With all the different GP vintage models around, should we have a "show" thread in the "Other watch brands" forum or just keep adding to the discussion here?

totally underrated, considering it was one of the most fine manufactures for complicated pocket watches in the 19th century. some double faced complicated pocket watches with ornamentation I saw in Buenos Aires, should try and find some images. I am not really aware if these manufactures degrade over time and today s quality is just an echo of its past glory.

GP was quite popular here in Italy during the 80's and 90's, since the firm was owned by the Macaluso family, Italians and close friends to the Agnelli entourage (in particular Luca Montezemolo).
In the mid 90's they produced watches co-branded with Ferrari.

I’m surprised to see people comparing JLC and GP.
To me JLC is truly high end, and has been so for most of the 20th century. That’s certainly not what we’ve been discussing however.
Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong though.

-I also must agree that G Perregaux has been serioulsy underated/undervalued during the last 20 years or so
Comparing vintage 40's/50's movements should be limited to just that - Lecoultre fans should know that JLC also produced more than a few "meh" movements in the 40's and 50"s, times change.

Today, from a 'haute horology" perpective, if you actually look around, I think you will find that GP stands up quite strongly when compared to JLC (esp GP "bridge movements") or for that matter some of the offerings within the "trinity".

Here's a recent GP 3 bridge tourbillon movement
