    Greetings all,
Sure, we've all heard about the beautiful chronograph movements everyone's gushing about....
But how about things like this random ebay find?
One almost wishes they could be set upside down with the movement showing.

Very pretty, would have cost a lot in the day.

I'm sure the American pocket watch people will be able to come up with some beauties as well.

It's difficult to imagine that a machine could be so beautiful.

I was told in a horology workshop that it's because the swiss were calvinists, there was a lesson to be taught that outer displays of wealth and beauty were misguided and that inner beauty was the goal. They're doubtlessly turning over in their graves.

I usually find movements engraved in this manner far too overdone for my tastes, but that one is nicely executed. But I still prefer more functional finishes that are traditional in watchmaking to something like this.

Not sure I understand the snake in the bottle thing. (?)
Is this referring to some sort of an idiom?

Its amazing the difference in quality and detail when you compare these to the Ukrainian efforts often seen on eBay to engrave and skeletonise old pocket watch movements. Its just intricate detail contrasted with brutality.

I like the simpler lines of the Hamilton 992B. Can be very accurate too!

it doesn't mean anything.... I just toss such things in once in a while for the fun of it.... mostly its stuff shot around the back yard.... a wasp on a peach or a bird in the tree out back. beats the hell out of another Speedie shot don't you think!

Ah, now I get it! I like the parrokeet! I wish I had some of those in my back yard but will pass on snake and wasps-- although the peach also looks great.

It's a cardinal. As common in parts of America as sparrows are here. I never got over how colourful the birds were in "the South" and everyone thought I was crazy when I wouldn't shut up about them.
