Greetings all, Interesting to see in the "Post your Longines" thread how diverse everybody's Longines tastes are. Which brings me to wonder: what Longines do you all like most? what's the Longines of your dreams? 1940s Longines? 1950s Longines? 1960s Longines? 1970s Longines? Here's for me the epitomy of beautiful Longines (although it's definitely a franken and might have had a redial, or at least a relume): https://www.chrono24.fr/longines/calatrava--id3344147.htm For purposes of this thread, let's rule out chronographs because that's too obvious. (maybe we should also rule out Italian sources, but I'll leave that up to you ). Curious what you all think, Best regards, Sylvie
Hen's teeth chronometers are right up there... https://omegaforums.net/threads/lady-luck-delivers-an-early-longines-chronometre.11157/
I'm still getting my feet wet in the Longines water and vintage watch collecting in general. But I know what I like so far: Mid to late 1960's watches. I'm wearing as I type a stainless steel cased Conquest cal. 291 that is both understated and elegant.
If we must leave chronographs aside, there are still several I'd like to have sometime. I tend to gravitate to their military spec'd pieces. I currently own only one Longines at present, a 6b/159 '56, and am still exploring the brand. So... The Czech-issued "Majetek" or perhaps a Greenlander would likely top my current Longines list. I am apparently cursed on acquiring the former, but that is a story for another time.
Generally, I like the '50's and '60's Longines the most, but like @Darlinboy , I feel the Czech Pilot watch (this one a 1935) has an elegance that is unmatched for that era: Of the Longines of my favorite era, I'd pick this Conquest, and its PR version as my favorites: And when it also has the medallion on the back, well, then it's truly 'Longines Nirvana'!
I don't own any of those above, but I do have a Conquest with fish medallion en-route from the UK.... ....and I'm really quite stoked! :
All beautiful watches actually... Totally agreed on the Majetek gents, it was my first favorite Longines watch, alas too big for me. Although a pal from another forum kindly let me try his a couple weeks ago.... quite a statemetn on a tiny wrist --and a magnificent watch. I hope you find yours.
Favorite Longines watch? Favorite one? Impossible! Even with the absence of the chronograph, there are just too many (and we all know the chrono's are.... gosh). You have the super rare chronometres, 12.68z's, 30l's, 23z's, art deco, classic, modern, 50's, 60's, divers, aviation, innovation, calibration, in-house up the perfection around every corner. You could only collect Longines and you'd have a fully developed collection. (cheated, with two chrono's)
I came here to claim that my Longines is the prettiest of them all... Ended up getting trumped by the first post in.
All except the first were mine and some still are. The "gunsight" watch is only about 32mm, if I remember correctly. It would be perfect for you, if you can find one. I sold mine on the forum some time ago.
David, you should have called it an astonomic dial calatrava, and perhaps have asked for the moon.... http://www.chrono24.com/en/longines/calatrava-astronomic-dial--id3989135.htm
Modest Proposal, Are we talking about the same watch? I was talking about the fourth one down -- with cross hairs in the middle. Larry, duh-- the only reason you picked that one, I'm willing to bet, is because it's just about the only one you don't have! Right?
