Hi everyone,

My first post here but I wanted to ask a rookie question.

I recently bought a 321 EW, and I wanted to hear as to what the community here thinks about the following …

I enjoy viewing the applied logo, but because the chrono second hand obscures the view, I like to stop the hand at 6 o’clock. Then I got to thinking … am I doing any harm to the movement?

I asked my sales associate at the boutique and he says no harm at all. Today I asked the service center in Toronto the same question, and they advised against it per the screen shot below.

I’d like to hear from anyone here who knows and might be able to expand on the subject.

Thank you, Brian

Congrats on the watch. I don't see a problem with the Chrono hand at 6, although it's not something I would do. On a side note, you may want to put some lotion on your arm. 👍

Thank you for the skin hygiene tip friend. 🙄

Is there a reason you wouldn’t leave the chrono hand at 6 from a technical standpoint?

“Adjust the position through the mechanism”

It sounds like these yahoos are suggesting that you remove the hand then reattach it so far off center that it resets to the 6 o’clock position!? I mean, it would move the chrono sweep hand out of the way, while nearly rendering the chronograph useless.

Indeed, and I would not do that ever.
Any reason you can see why it’s not ok to leave the chrono hand hanging at 6 o’clock indefinitely?

It won’t hurt anything to leave the hand stopped at 6.

Thank you for this.😀

Is there any reason you can think of that the RSC here in Toronto advised against it?

No idea really, but the people in Toronto don’t actually service 321’s, where I do regularly, so maybe they just don’t have any experience with them.

Their proposed solution is one of the dumbest things I’ve heard in a while...

I never considered that, but now that you mention it, 321’s do go to Switzerland for servicing don’t they?

A silly question, but are you a watchmaker?

Indulge me here guys I’m new.

To me a chronograph should be ready for duty at all times, I don't want to have to first reset it before starting a timing event. Same with the Daytona, pusher collars always unscrewed when on the wrist. But it's your watch, do what makes you happy.

Al’s been around a long time and is a particular favourite among owners of vintage 321 Speedmasters. When people list 321s for sale here a recent service invoice by either STS, Archer or Simon Freese tends to carry a small premium as people know the watch has been done right.

^ careful you might have to ban yourself for shilling, TK style 😉

I’ve had 2 watches serviced by Archer in the past and even after a few years I still enjoy going back through the pdf of the service.

He is one of the best I know. I personally would not send my Omegas to anyone else.

Lol yea well I mentioned all three that spring to mind, its just that a 321 movement can have a lot of issues requiring parts and every other person says “recently serviced” or words to that effect but if there’s an invoice from one of those three you know it wasn’t a half-arsed job and that necessary parts were replaced to get it back up to snuff.
