Modding a First Omega in Space

So, I've been thinking about purchasing a FOIS, and then modding it, by changing the hands, bezel and crown for the ones on the 3861 Speedmaster.

Can anyone give me any advice about how to go about doing this, and how much it's likely to cost me?

Cheers.

I think M’Bob may have done or attempted or contemplated something similar. I am never able to pull up his name with a “@“. But look for this.

Why not buy a previously owned 3861?

Curious to know why mod the FOIS vs just buying a 3861

Presumably because the FOIS has a totally different form factor to the 3861 since the latter has the Pro twisted lug case. Some of us much prefer the straight lug case. Sounds like he is trying to make an Ed White on the cheap. See below for a poor pic comparing the original EW vs the FOIS. There are fairly major differences:

I already own a 3861, and I like the straight lugs and no crown guards of the FOIS, but I don't like the alpha hands, and I think the crown is too narrow on it.

I never could read those hands too well, and I used the case for another project. So I put the FOIS movement and dial inside a twisted lug case, replaced the hands, and added a strap:

Haha! He must have it encrypted or something. I will cut and paste from now on.

I just changed the hands on my new FOiS for legibility reasons. I used a 321 hands kit (067PP00395). Very happy with the mod.

Very happy with the mod.
Because people are going to ask to see photos of it… from the other thread where you shared a pic 😉

Also as I said in the other thread, if I wanted that look I'd buy a 321.

Love the look of the strap. Who’s it by?

Thanks. If I still have it, I’ll see if it’s marked.
