my speedy seems to be broke - gave it a good wind last night (40 turns) and set the time- when I woke up this morning it stopped no more than an hour after I’d left it. Done the same this morning to see what happens.

I wore it all day on Monday and it ran absolutely fine. Any idea what the issue might be? Broken mainspring?

I only got it a few weeks ago from zeitauktion... grrr

Will email seller tonight after I have ascertained exactly how long it runs for! Bought through eBay - don't expect any long term warranty

Naively I assumed as it has been fully refinished they would have services it - the pictures of the movement on the advert all looked very clean

Unless you have proof that the watch was serviced (not just the seller's word) and that the service was done by a reputable service provider, I would always assume it's going to need a service when you buy it. If it ends up not needing one, then consider it a bonus.

    Cheers, Al

Cornwall? In Ontario, UK, or some other Cornwall as I'm sure there are plenty of them...

we have plenty of UK members but I can't think of one that's mentioned living in Cornwall. @nonuffinkbloke I believe is in the Dorset area - might be able to contribute?

As to your question of the mainspring being at fault: you will almost always feel a broken mainspring. You can wind as normal an then you'll feel the spring slip. It's not possible to fully wind a broken spring as it'll just keep slipping (usually).

Don't give up on the watch without more investigation .. It looks like a cracker.

Since this is an automatic, the spring is always going to be slipping in the barrel as they are designed to. Depending on where the spring is broken, it may or may not be something you can feel - it also depends on the watch in question.

I doubt this has anything to do with a broken mainspring - it's likely just a watch in need of a proper service.

Yes I am in Dorset. I love Cornwall. It's very beautiful and I spent my summer holidays in the early 1970's surfing in Newquay.
We are so fortunate to have Simon Freese knocking about on this island and Essex is a very good place to take an old Omega Speedmaster. So look young man! Give him a call. He's very helpful.

(EDIT) Ahh! Sorry! My mistake. Yes ChrisN is a Watchmaker, and Zummerzet is much closer to Cornwall than Essex.

@Archer AL is the movement in this watch problematic in any way?. I am in negotiations as we speak for a Mark 4.5.

There will be plenty of people who love this movement (mostly referring to it's legibility and "robustness"), but I am not one of them. This is Omega's version of the Lemania 5100...so full of plastic parts...

Panic over, it seems to be working ok now, what’s the power reserve on these?

Do it! It’s super comfortable to sort and so retro chic!
