I've seen a couple of Speedmasters with the Mitsukoshi dial/hands mods for sale lately, that all say they were done by Omega certified watchmakers with genuine Omega parts. But some of them are in the 42mm Speedy pro case, and some in the 39.7mm FOIS case. Does anyone know if the Mitsukoshi dials were produced in both sizes? Or are the dial sizes the same on those two watches and just the case sizes are different? I like the way these look, but want to make sure I'm getting something with legit Omega parts. If you send one of these modded watches in to Omega for servicing, will they leave it alone, or will they change it back to factory spec for the watch like I've heard Rolex will?
Not sure on the policy of omega servicing watches with switches Dials, so I can't answer that. But I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that the dial size of the FOIS and regular Pro's is the same. May the more knowledgeable correct me if I'm wrong on that one. Edit: found it https://omegaforums.net/threads/39-7mm-or-42mm-moonwatch.27239/ Cheers, Max
Omega will never be able to service it. I had mine done by a certified omega/swatch watch maker, and if I ever sell it, I will give his information so he can verify he did it for me.
The facepalm starting at 1:45 is quite stupendous. "conversion of a Brand New Omega Speedmarter 39.7mm Moonwatch to pay homage to a Rolex 6241 Paul Newman "Panda Dial" Daytona" The levels of wrong in that statement are outstanding... Its like a russian nesting doll of stupidity, the levels of stupid just keep going.
When the man himself weighs in, you know you've got a definitive answer. Thanks Al! (And thanks all for the guidance!)
This. Exactly what my OB said when I asked them last year. I assume you'd get your mod parts back--didn't ask that.
I've been bitten by the panda bug and have sourced a Mitsukoshji dial & hands and a 3570.50 that I plan to convert. I'm wondering how long it would take a competent watchmaker to swap the dial & hands over and how much this will probably cost? thanks
Don't take this the wrong way but why don't you ask a watchmaker or two for a quote and timeline? After all no matter what anyone here tells you it comes up to what you are charged. I've never had this done but I would assume that without work needed on the movement it's a fairly fast turn around and low cost.
Of course I'll get a couple of quotes. The reason I asked here first was so I have an idea if the watchmaker's quote is reasonable.
I think it depends on your relationship. When i was in NYC is had a gent there that would have probably taken 2 days and not charged me because I had a good relationship with him. Where I am now I have no contacts so...can't tell
I made a Frankenstein of my .005. It was modded by the same AD i bought the watch from. Cost me around €300. Got the dial from forum and hands from Ofrei. Love it. But would have been even nicer to have one original
Fantastic! I have the silver handset also but thought it be best to mod a version that differs from the original. Just to be honest that its franken
Hi, newbie here, so go easy on me. I'm in a similar position to the OP except.... I'm looking into having a panda dial built entirely from new service parts, including the case, movement, dial, hands, bracelet....the whole 9 yards basically. The movement will be a numbered movement but the case will be devoid of any serial numbers. So What's the deal with Omega come service time with a watch constructed in this manor, entirely from their own genuine service parts, when taking into consideration it's a numbered movement? Your thoughts appreciated.
