    Hi guys,
can I have your thought on this military Longines listing on eBay? I don't know much about Longines but I have bought one with help from this forums and really enjoy it, :)
Also any suggestion on website where I can start on vintage Longines would be appreciated.

This site is focused more on watches made by Longines-Wittnauer Co. for the US market. That's the same company that imported LeCoultre.

Can't comment on the military provenance of the eBay watch. For that sort of thing you really need to go here:

    Hope this helps,

One of the Dozen WWWs, british military, commonly if erroneously referred to as the Greenlander ( it had nothing to do with British expedition there in early 50's). This one is nice, has matching case and number on lugs (they were often swapped during mod service).

    Hi Larry,
Thanks for your info, any thought on the originality of the dial, the lums on the numbers seem to be newer than the hands?

Dial is original, cant speak to the lume, though it too seems original.
It aint gonna come cheap if current bidding is any indication.
    Good luck!

I agree, rare dispensed rather casually. He's got some nice pieces, one admittedly rare one with problems, but the others are not difficult to find...

I don't think the actual watches are getting rarer, but it is less common to see them because good examples like this get bought and then disappear into somebody's collection for years, never to be seen on forums or eBay again.

The one thing that gives me pause about this watch is the lume. It looks like the radium has crystallized which I have never seen before. The seller also has a JLC mark XI for sale and the condition of the lume is almost identical to the Longines. Considering that these were made to military specs, I guess it is possible that they would have decayed in a uniform fashion if they were exposed to the same elements, but the fact that I've never come across two WWW dials that were even in remotely similar condition leaves me skeptical. I would love to be corrected if I'm wrong though. I've wanted one of these for a very long time.

I heard on these watches, the lime really dosent matter because lots of soldiers got them resumed anyway, so its not so detrimental from a collecting standpoint, compared to a relumed rolex sub. On these I was told, its about the condition of the case.

This is what @tmw57 told me

"You always want to go unpolished (or minimally polished) with these. Don't worry about crappy lume on the dial. As long as the rest of the dial is good it is perfectly acceptable to re-lume in the world of mil watches."
