Most probably saw this at $9k, and didn't pay much mind.

Seller dropped to $4.5k and it got snapped up.

Samsonite full of letters from Nixon, major generals, and all of the original owners passports, army docs, etc. is amazing.

Interesting watch, but the nature of the "military provenance" would not be expected to add much, IMO. Most military collectors will place a premium on an issued watch with the appropriate markings. Since this watch is likely to be a personal purchase, what might have added a little bit of value was an extract indicating it was shipped to a PX. SO the value should be compared to other 166.024.

I believe this watch belonged to a GI killed in Vietnam and was sent home with the soldier's personal effects. The official letters were condolence messages. I didn't notice the price break but I still would have passed on the watch. Too sad a story.

The whole story is tragic, he was 13 days out, ran one more mission, and his plane crashed. I will not go into details, but it is all detailed in the interwebs...

Guy was a complete badass, and a patriot, hence all of the letters.

That was a nice one even with the relumed hands. I purchased his other watch and was a good straight forward and honest seller.

Bad luck watch? I'd rather get the $1450 Ed White
