·These are uncommon and among the more collectible Mido watches. As the pics and description will show, this one is in very good condition and a delight to wear as I'm admiring it on my wrist now as I type this. I believe this watch to be all original with the possible exception of the crystal
Dial: A very pretty and evenly patinated light champagne. A few spots that are pictured and do not detract from it's appearance. Lume is excellent, intact and does not glow. A cool feature is the outer minute track that shows the even numbers highlighted by small silver squares. Seen in the right light at the right angle one can visualize an "eggshell" appearance in the old lacquer.
Hands: Blued and excellent. Hand lume is near perfect and does not glow. The date hand snaps over promptly at 12:00 and is (IMHO) so much nicer than a date window in terms of symmetry.
Movement: A nice 917 that was just serviced and keeping good time.
Case: 34mmm. Numerous small abrasions and superficial scratches but still what I would call good due to the way it presents when seen in person. And it's unpolished. It is an "FB" case, one of the finest ever manufactured. Case back has some scratches from careless opening and one small gouge that is outlined in the last picture.
For more info I will paraphrase @Tony C. here:
"These were among the very best cases made by any manufacturer during the early and mid-century, and Patek Philippe even used them. If anyone is confused by the lack of the "FB" signature on the inside of the case back, note that the "Brit. Pat." was also substituted by Mido on some of the Taubert cases. There is no doubt that this is one, and another sign is the matching numbers between the lugs and last four digits of the serial number inside the case back." (thanks Tony)
As stated, this watch was just serviced. Please note that I do not have proof of service outside of my watchmakers tiny (and I DO mean tiny) inscription near the center of the inner case back. I am one of his only private customers as he works for the trade these days. We've known each other for 25 years and operate on a handshake basis...
I'm asking $700 and accept pp F+F or bank wire. Fedex/Parcelpro to lower 48 is on me. Overseas will split with buyer, but overseas buyers please be aware that this can get pricy...
Please don't hesitate to ask questions or for more pics.
Thanks for the platform OF!
I made a BIG mistake in the first paragraph when I listed this before. I said "I believe this watch to be all original with the possible exception of the dial"..
This has been corrected to : "I believe this watch to be all original with the possible exception of the crystal"
A rather important distinction!
