I'm planning to have one soon (by buying a SM300 with one). They look badass, and it looks like you can swap the clasp on the Omega Vintage mesh for a current model PloProf mesh clasp ($325 @ Ofrei).

Ooooh, that might be my next purchase if it can be swapped! If you find out for sure, let me know.

The PloProf clasp is what I want. It looks so well made.

Why did you have to post that? Now I have to get one for my mesh too! :)

Its a very good deal for $325 when you consider the fact that people spend $700-$900 buying Daytona clasps to fit to Yacht-Masters in order to modernize them.

I completely agree. The first time I learned what Rolex charged for parts like that I needed CPR. I was shocked.

Is it possible to buy a generic mesh bracelet at 22mm and fit it to the Omega PloProf buckle?

Nope, the Ploprof buckle will only take 20mm.The Omega mesh tapers down to 20mm.

Its a massive buckle, thick and heavy which is fine for a Ploprof type heavy watch but IMO not suited to a lighter weight watch

Oh it would be for my 45.5mm PO Chronograph which takes a 22mm. Any suggestions on mesh. Or is the seat belt option my only choice for mesh?

Well, in theory the 1247/237 bracelet would work, afaik its 22mm at the lugs and 20mm at the clasp. The reason I say that is if you look at the extender (Omega Clasp Extender 034ST01) on ofrei's page, it says Adds about 3/4 of an inch (19 mm) for use with bracelets 1247/237, 1266/237 and 1380/237.

Which means it fits the 20mm, 22mm and 24mm vintage mesh bracelets so they must all have the same size at the clasp (20mm).

Check my reasoning by reading here:
    http://www.ofrei.com/page1280.html

Note: I'm talking vintage mesh, not the modern PO mesh, which I don't like as much.

Yes all the original Omega mesh bracelets taper to 20mm for the clasp so the same clasps and extender can be used on them all. The Omega mesh is very good quality and I really like the seat belt buckle clasp but it is a bit expensive. I guess the new PO mesh is quite different?

One alternative I have on one of my Speedmasters is the Staib mesh, great quality and not too expensive.

I bought mine from here and they have a sale on too.... http://lonestarwatches.com/3.2Mesh.htm
