Not sure where they found those guys but Paul is a good guy. Not sure about the others (and who is going to publicly say that they covet a $750k watch??).

"Who needs a classic watch these days? All they do is tell time; they can't count our steps or deliver texts or the weather forecast. But some men still collect and wear luxurious accessories on their wrists, researching new models and coveting ones they don't have. There must be a reason."

    Sorry, what is this bullshit?

To be fair, 99% of the people I talk to about watches (who are not watch guys) ask basically that same question. A lot of people just can't comprehend why you would wear a wristwatch when you have a phone that tells the time in your pocket.

Let's just say that the people I work with are more interested in trucks and firearms than watches... I'm also 22 years old so I suppose I do end up hanging out with a lot of millennial fuckwits (most of whom have never even seen a mechanical watch).

I know people who swear by old British roadsters and Alfas etc, and foam at the mouth when presented with something as mundane and appliance-like as a comfortable, automatic-transmission crossover... who look at me funny when I talk about mechanical watches.

"Who needs a $2000 designer handbag these days? All they do is hold a quantity of pointless shit; they can't be used for carrying gym gear, or keeping lunches cold. But some women still collect, and carry luxurious accessories on their shoulder, researching new models and coveting ones they don't have. There must be a reason."

Give me a byline and pay me $500 an article.

People spend money on irrational things that make them happy. There must be a reason.

I was most shocked by this sentence,

"I have watches made by Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Panerai, Vacheron and others. My wife has given me most of those watches as gifts. She has terrific taste."

Who has a wife that allows watches and can afford all those brands?!?!?

My girlfriend broke my first cheap automatic watch and claims it led me to a nicer watch purchase so she did me a favor.....
