Another addition to my 1968/1975 Omega family album. Terrible strap I know. Any ideas?
Any feedback most welcome. I have already ordered two new straps but not sure if I nailed it.

    Thanks

I love omega watches from this era and this one is on my to buy list. Not a great fan of that colour combination but yours looks nice and clean. There was one for sale with a nato strap on it that looked nice. Perhaps a simple brown strap would suit your watch. Its difficult to know without trying them on I suppose.

I agree, the gold plate model would have been the last on my list. However, the price was just too tempting & yes very clean & tidy plus recent Omega overhaul. We pick up what we can :) Thanks

I bet in a few years time gold plated will be the hottest trend in town and we will all be kicking our selves for not buying them while they are going for a song. my only defence for not doing so is that I am not looking to make money, I am only buying watches that I really love and want to wear and I hope I never have to sell them. So no gold coloured watches for me.
Since we both seem to like watches from the same era, what other watches do you have, if you don t mind me asking? I have a dynamic deville, a 1973 geneve megahertz a chronostop driver and a seamaster chronostop with rotating bezel. I am hoping to by a seamaster diver with a banana dial soon.

Ok, I hear ya. I have 2 x cushion case dynamics. 2 x bullseye dynamics. 69 chronostop. Seamaster Tungsten. 2x Geneve calenders... and this Memomatic. Still not happy ... Always digging :)

Is the dial gray or bronze?

Great looking Memomatic. Some bargains to be had in gold plate I believe. It's not my favorite color either, but sometimes there is an overall appeal that transcends the color. I picked up this GP alarm which has the same vibe as your Omega. Best of all, it has a reworked JLC Memovox 916 movement in it and it was relatively inexpensive. Also looking for the right strap so I'm interested to see what you choose.

Dial looks excellent. Someone has gone a little overboard with a polishing mop and has removed most of the finish. Example below shows original finish. Original bracelet took me aeons to find and it doesn't have its original finish either as it should be brushed.

A gold plated 166.072 with original finish is hard to find these days.

    Cheers

    Desmond

Bracelets seem to be a bigger pain in the arse to find than the watches themselves. Was looking for a 1171.625 for my chronostop but ended up getting a 1161.172. The 1171 bracelet was not so hard to find but getting the ends seemed near impossible.

    More Bronze I reckon
Yep very cool piece. Whats the lug space on yours? Will post pics when I get done.
I,m with Desmond. Brushed matt finish. Yes someone spit and polished my one :) ... Very sweet with the bracelet.
I was the same with my chronostop so just left with a black strap & Omega s/s buckle.

I'm more an steel or solid gold man, but am often tempted by plated watches as I think they are undervalued and yours looks in very good condition. I love these timer watches from the 50's to mid 70's. At the time they were very advanced though my memomatic has a bumper movement. P1020470.JPG

18mm lugs on the GP. 39mm diameter not including crowns so very wearable. How big are these Memomatics?

40mm is a just about perfect for me, 42 is about my max even though my wrist size would allow me to wear something a bit larger. I'd like to find a non-black leather strap that works with these that is not too dressy or formal like lizard or gator skin would be, but doesn't look silly.

Glad that you like this color combination Desmond. I just bought one in almost NOS condition. Probably pay a bit too much but I immensely enjoy it. Will take picture this weekend.
