This is a watch i recently acquired. It is in mint condition and shows purple snot with a sticker featuring the serial number and other info.

It is on a 1215 strap (with clasp), that shows some slight damage.

The previous owner claimed it was NOS and it looks unworn to me. Was "purple snot with sticker" the way these were delivered back then from the factory?

Thanks for watching.

So cool in a chunky retro 70s way. Love the dial.

I think they were delivered with a plastic sticker that has turned into purple snot. I have 4 70s watches that were sold as NOS and all of them have some purple snot on them. I imagine that you have already gathered that it comes off quite easily. Cool watch

Mine says hello. Also acquired recently, and I am lovin' it. A great slab of 70s steel, made of awesome. I'll be honest, 6 months ago, no, 3 months ago, I would never have thought that I'd buy a quartz watch, ever. Turns out I am more excited by this watch than ... well, lots of things. Enjoy yours in good health, Sir.

I picked up a couple NOS watches for my wife a while back that both had this. One was Omega and the other Zenith. From memory the Zenith had green gunk, while the Omega was purple as shown below. The trick was to apply acetone, otherwise known as nail polish remover.

I applied some acetone to a cotton wool bud and then rubbed the back of the watch firmly. I believe it took about 2 minutes and a few attempts, but it came up perfectly.

Yes it's nos or it's in a nos case, either way it's a lovely thing! As you know I am a massive fan of these watches, new old stock examples don't often come up and whilst the blue dial is deemed not as valuable as the stardust imho they are stunning

I wore one of mine to a wedding last weekend, I had more than a few comments on how cool it was, especially in the sunshine

For defence the purple snot is known as zappon, it is rhe protective coating the watches left the factory with

Ps likely yours left the factory wit a bracelet and had the correct 1215 fitted later, you can see where some ham fisted watch makers had scratched the underside of the case removing the band.
