I’ve just been successful in an eBay auction for this 1960s Marvin Revue automatic (£169.00 to save anyone checking the 'Sold' listings). I thought it looked good.

Does anyone know anything about Marvins?

Have I done alright or been an extravagant idiot - hopefully not?

Seller’s photos (some of them) attached

Well, in answering one of my questions, Marvin is an old Swiss brand, founded in 1850, which failed to make the change to quartz and went out of business in about 1980 before being revived as a 'new' Far East brand in recent years.

Post WW2, it was known for supplying ‘Flying Dutchman' watches (which I had heard of) to KLM pilots and for a well-regarded watch, the 'Marvin Motorist', which I hadn’t heard of.

Somewhere on line I’ve read that both Marilyn Monroe and Che Guevara wore Marvins but I’m keeping an open mind on that bit of information.

Whilst the watch I’ve bought is '1960s', and the Genta-style case would seem to support that premise, the strap, unless it is 'new old stock', is presumably at least 30 years old - given that 'W Germany' ceased soon after The Wall came down in 1990.

For the price you got a nice all stainless C-cased watch with a decent movement- you did fine.

No knowledge about Marvin but you have a great taste 👍 C-cased watches are beautiful in a fun vintagey way.

Nice!

I've got a Hermetic incoming shortly, so I've been looking. I think the "main" Marvin thread on OF is this one: there are clearly some enthusiasts right here among us!

Marvin is a decent off-the-beaten-path brand. They made lovely dress watches in the 1960's. Yours is in lovely shape.
