Anyone else remember getting the first picture back from the Viking lander in 1976, how it scanned so slowly you could watch the scan line crawl across each line and getting the whole picture took a couple of hours?

Wow! The whole thing is just amazing...there are some seriously clever and ingenious people at NASA/JPL.

Good luck for these rest of the mission, including the autonomous helicopter and sample return.

Just in case y'all didn't have your chat up, just wanted to say enjoyed all the conversation and thanks again to @Foo2rama for hosting.
It'd be fun to do something like this again...

Wish I could pop open a cold beer to celebrate, but I'm still at the "office". Actually, I'm currently on a Zoom conference and was watching the NASA live feed with CC subtitles on my other monitor. When the first image from the landing site was dragged onto the screen I got a little weepy; fortunately, all my colleagues can see is a tiny thumbnail of me. 😀

Couldn't make the chat but I followed the landing on the NASA channel.

Congratulations to all involved!

Can't wait to see what happens with the helicopter.

Had a ball chatting with everyone today!

Got me thinking that if we don't get something going sooner, maybe another zoom gathering either during or after Watches & Wonders has disgorged all the shiny metal lusty things upon the world. Thoughts?

👍
Certainly did... got lots of NASA-JPL Viking I & II photos, lithos, press brochures, etc... via Dutchman, NASA-JPL PR-responsable Jurrie van der Woude (in fact an ex-military pilot who went to work for NASA in the early 1960s)
I have been "reporting" on Mars missions for 30 years and meanwhile we've had the 1997 Pathfinder-Sojourner, the 2004 Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit & Opportunity, the 2012 large car-sized Curiosity and now the 2021 Perseverance rover on the red planet...

Too cool.
They also played the "sounds" from Mars this AM on the news.
Just sounded like wind, but still pretty neat hah.
