Had a few MKii over the years but always seem to go bracelet on these. Maybe I just never found the right strap...

Are those service dial and hands? Maybe I'm in the minority and I know alot of people really don't like service sets, but I really like the service racing dial/ hands and have often considered having my non-racing done. Beauty is you can always revert back at a later date and those service parts would be easy to sell.

Yes Tet - I had Simon Freese replace my original black dial with the MkII service dial and hand set.
I prefered the vibrant colour plus the process can be easily reversed 👍

Was he able to supply them also? Thought I'd have to go through STS but if he can supply them I'll probably use Simon instead. Any chance of telling me cost?

He only fitted them - i supplied the dial and handset which was purchased from About-time NZ (eBay) many years ago

The finished product looks great, but boy that black dial is a stunner!

Agreed. Looks too good to be true, is it a relume?

I would say the answer to this thread is Bracelet, but this picture gives me pause for thought.

Not to my knowledge - I will take some pictures of the plots in day light using a loupe and upload tomorrow

Okay, but don't get too close or that tritium will melt your eyebrows off. 😜

Normally I'm also in the "Never Polish" camp, but the Mk II case has so much meat on it that a re-lap feels OK since it's taking such a small amount off the surface...
Not so sure

certainly, in the OP watch, the case cant take another polish - its almost worn through - look at the thiness of the metal remaining inside the red circle

Good eye, there. It's pretty thin around that right "non-lug" in particular--at least from that angle. That said, there don't seem to be any deep scratches in the finish so I think it could still handle a light lapping and come out looking really good. STS or Bienne might take a little extra off the left side to even things out, too.

I should add that I'd probably leave it as-is if it were mine. Looks great in its current field-tested state.

I had one for years on a plain black leather strap, it just suited the watch so well.

Really like that Heuerville tan strap. Tried various leather straps but I agree with the bracelet crew -

I picked up a vintage Speedmaster Mark 2 recently. I wasn't in the hunt for one as I had always assumed they were a bit boat-anchory what with the thick case but chanced upon this one with bracelet, box & papers so bought it from the original owner. It's on 30.99m which is late 70/early 71 manufacture, papers dated Jan 1972. It's clearly seen a fair bit of wear but has the bonus of having a seemingly untouched case and I couldn't resist it. Now I have tried it on the croc with Omega deployant below and it has surprised me with how comfortable and wearable it actually is. I had thought it would be a safe queen which would get little wrist time but now I am reappraising it in the positive direction.

Can other Mk2 owners post their favourite strap suggestions with pics, or if you are bracelet junky feel free to post those too. Am looking for ideas

Some good notched silicone straps work well. Different colours avail. I love this orange. I also have a black with red stiching. They flow with the case

Some good notched silicone on the market. Black with red stiching also. I love these.

I wear mine mostly on the bracelet, but also a Corrigia Strap suits well in my opinion.

I tend to go back and forth between an Uncle Seiko 1171 with 735 end links on an OEM trapezoidal logo clasp:

And a Forstner 1450 with custom end links on a 1498 clasp.

But it does look fine on a good old black leather with white stitching strap.

Given the steel substantiveness of the case, I feel only an original bracelet completes the look. Just my two cents…
