    Hi,

I've just ordered a Belomo 8x Triplet handheld loupe - I know there was an option for a 10x magnifier, but whilst people swear by them, others thought this was too much and reduce DoF and FoV too much. The 8x was the lowest they do, so I'm hoping that this would be enough to examine the dial in detail? I'm also hoping that it would be high enough to view the Rolex laser-etched coronet, and see if there is an "S" in it to determine if it's a service crystal.

    Any thoughts?

8x should be more than sufficient.

It'll be just fine but I thought I'd take this opportunity to say that I've always found jeweller's loupes expensive and lesser quality (bang for buck) than some others. If you try geology suppliers, you can get some great prices on excellent multi-lens doublets/triplets. I have the two linked, one that I use for watches and the other for gemstones: https://www.ukge.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=291&strReferer=search&PPGR=0

I bought mine from The Loupe Store UK - £32.90 + shipping - cheaper than eBay at £54. They also have their own 10x triplet loupe that has been awarded best by BBC Wildlife Magazine for £10!
