The 34mm Rolex watches from the 1950's to 1970's are my favorites, especially the Air-kings.

Excuse me, but the 14000 Airking is also a very nice watch. 😒

I like all of the 34mm Air-kings but being a product of the 1960's myself, I have a soft spot for the early 60's designs with alpha hands and rivet bracelets.

The rivet oyster is really great but the 19mm ones are only like 12mm at the clasp. I picked up a very rare oval link 19mm USA jubilee which has barely any taper and the huge crown. Also, the end links ACTUALLY FIT! It does look a little bulky on the watch though, it is meant for a pre-Daytona. My oyster is at rolliworks getting tightened, curious if the end links will be less sloppy. The 76350 bracelets are great though.

I guess I’ll add this now, while I’m still waiting for that black dialed ‘63 1002 to get here.

This is a 1008 from 1967 that I recently picked up. I wasn’t looking for a 1008, but when I saw its condition, I simply surrendered to it. Turns out, it’s wonderful.

This finally arrived yesterday.

IV-63 1002, on a 3-63 bracelet.

Obviously, these 34mm, no-date, 60’s glossy black dialed Rolexes have become a minor addiction of mine. This one is also wonderful on my wrist — light but with a presence.

My timegrapher tells me this watch needs some intervention, so off to my watchmaker she goes.

It’s a sickness, definitely a sickness.

This 1002 is II-62. I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do.

Looks like it needs some polywatch for the crystal. (This is an added benefit to photographing my watches: I always discover those little things that a naked eye cannot.)

One year and two quarters apart. An early marked tritium dial and a late marked radium dial. Typical of how I like to collect.

Honestly, I don’t entirely understand why people would rather buy a modern, overweight, over-wrought and gaudy Rolex wrist-anchor when they can have something far more elegant and unusual.

There are a lot of interesting 34mm vintage Rolexes out there. Too many. Trust me.

Nice pair! Just do something about the rattling 12h endlink of the tritium one 😜

I've also picked up a glossy 1002 recently. Absolutely love it. Just need to find a decent bracelet now. Think I'm going to go for a 78350 for a bit of modern-ish security as I intend to wear it a lot!

Very nice! When does it date to?

I’m finding that I love these rivet bracelets. So light and comfortable! The 78350 I have on another 1002 makes that watch so much heavier.

I’ve even put a rivet bracelet on my 5513. 😲

I have an aftermarket rivet on my 16750 for the same reason....and it just looks killer.

Mine's a '66, so possibly one of the last? Though from what I've seen the gloss dials on OPs and Datejusts seem to run a little later than on Subs for example, so not sure.

I may give a period correct bracelet a go in that case, if I can find a good one. Agree they're the absolute best in terms of comfort 👍

I have vintage bracelets on every vintage watch I own where a bracelet was a factory option (and even many where it wasn’t). I have never had a vintage bracelet fail- ever. The factory pressed tin clasp on my older oyster was pretty much beaten to death and never came undone, never had a link or spring bar fail- the thing really would have to be a clapped out POS for it to fall apart on you.

My 1018 with a glossy black dial dates to 1979.

Another good option for the glossy 1002 is a 7835 folded oyster. It might be had a bit cheaper than the rivet. I have a rivet and a 7835 being tightened up by rolliworks right now; can’t wait to see how they turned out!

Gorgeous watches ! It is so much more elegant than the 41 mm modern ones. Old is gold, in particular for Rolex. 🥰
