Just bought the blue titanium speedmaster and its ticking is noticeable when compared to my Rolex GMT-Master 2 which is completely silent. Could the noise be a result of the non-metal back?

What do you mean non metal? Isn't the back titanium too?

Different watch, different movement and different material the variation is to be expected really. Having said that I've never owned a silent Rolex or even one that could be described as particularly quiet.

Except for manually winding my Rolexes have all been dead silent. .. when manually winding... it purrs like a kitten...

But back on topic:quite normal... in general less waterproof watches are ticking louder especially vintage ones

Case material plays a part, and titanium carries sound better than most.
