    Hi everyone...

    Been watching this auction...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/18k-Gold-Universal-Geneve-Polerouter-De-Luxe-Automatic-Microtor-Mens-Watch-28J-/142167449250?nma=true&si=%2FOsgQxYDomaaBqMylvq7Pbehey4%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    original auction photos...
    BACK.JPG MOV2.JPG DIAL4.JPG DIAL3.JPG DIAL2.JPG DIAL1.JPG

    Then that above listing ended...

new seller from same town posted same watch for less...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/391619233510?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:ITPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    new listing photos

so new seller has the watch...

What I like about the watch...

    case edges are sharp!
early 215 movement with " Patents rights pending "
notice inside caseback no micro rotor rubbing against caseback ( no rotor axial wobble)

What I question about ... i do not see gold hallmark on case under lugs.

    ---

just for your reference .. here is another gold polerouter de luxe with a heavy worn case.

I think that you have sufficient inconsistencies to tell you to run from this one..
Dial font not the same, big difference compare the "automatic microtor" on both dials and the "swiss" placement.
    Serial/model references transposed (top bottom)..
    No hallmark on the case..
    Casemark markings (swiss particularly)...

I have earlier UG Deluxe with lower swiss placement on the dial . a lot of effort to fake this watch...

Will let you know when I get the watch... and check it out.

Hi Bill. Well I just learned something today. I never thought the case would also have the gold hallmarks. Are you sure this is not country dependant?

Then you should know. How about missing hallmarks?

Well that is the one thing that I am questioning TTG...

odd , and will learn something and if it's not 18k gold will have a pretty good reason to rely tovthe seller .

Also thanks for commenting ... not sure if there are a lot of Polerouter guys here ...

    Yes I know.
I was trying to find pictures of goldplated versions but I didn't succeed. My GP Polerouter doesn't have platting under the lugs, but I don't know if that is normal?

Well I found a few but you can also find some goldplated that have platting under the lugs. I was hoping to confirm my hypothesis but I didn't. :)

So I guess it's possible that it could be a goldplated case with a gold back. We will have to wait for the answer.

    Anyways here are the pictures.

Are Polerouters without Swiss made cases available? IIRC, all Swiss solid gold cases must have two hallmark stamps on the outside of the case...

Never saw a gold Polerouter without hallmarks but, is also true, i never saw a gold capped Polerouter capped under the lugs...

My gold Polerouter has the hallmarks, my gold capped Polerouter is not capped under the lugs and my ss Polerouter ... well... is a ss Polerouter...

I think you have a real nice watch for a bargain. I've been following both watches, and I was going to make an offer to the watch you bought if it still didn't sell and got re-listed again. Had I seen the other listing for $1,495, I would've bought in a heartbeat, though it is strange that the seller used a different eBay id.

I think the lower placement SWISS on the dial is ok, I've seen a few examples like this on other Polerouters. Real nice unpolished case, with early patent pending 215 movement. The lack of hallmarks under the lugs is probably because it was delivered to a different country, the hallmarks inside the case back are there. You can see another difference on the case back where the first watch has the serial on top of the case reference, and vice versa on the second watch. Just one of those UG inconsistencies I suppose.

    Bill -

One thing I've noticed about Polerouters in general is that even within the same case reference, there are a lot of variations regarding cosmetic things like hallmarks and placement of serial/reference numbers, etc. On steel versions I've seen anything from being heavily engraved outside the caseback, through being hand engraved so lightly inside the caseback so that they can barely been seen at all. Not sure why that is, but it is.

It's really kind of pointless to speculate about this until you have the watch in hand. Any concerns on the case, just take it to a jeweler.

My opinion (which is worth exactly what you paid for it) is that the watch is great and you got a helluva good buy on it.

I totally agree! Engravings and marks on the cases can be very very variable, and I would not worry about a hallmark. Congratulations for your new watch!
