Looks fake, but kind of nice dial - any opinions

Hi, I've bought this fairly cheap, a couple of hundred on ebay. Looking at the OMEGA symbol and the OMEGA text, it looks messy, and I haven't seen a dial like this.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this kind of dial, or can you comment on whether the movement - apparently 601 - is real?

Thanks.

Please show the stampings inside the case back. The Omega symbol and the word Omega on the dial were not put on there by Omega, in my opinion. Crude. Cosmetically, the dial is unlike any Omega dial I have ever seen. The movement is genuine Omega.

I agree, the paining is crude, and unlike any other Omega I could find online, but I'm new to this. Posting the case back now:

Actually, really like the dial though, so not a complete waste if it's not genuine...

I would call the case genuine Omega. The patina on the dial is not likely as original, but it is not unattractive in my view. If the dial fits the movement properly, it is likely original, but the patina and Omega markings don’t appear to be original to the dial. Properly serviced, the movement appears to have lots of life left in it. You could have been a whole lot unluckier with your purchase.

That's a great find. Possibly the same watch with some problems with the dial on the one I've bought. I couldn't even think of how to search for that pattern. Did you know what to search for, or have some other way of finding that example.

Thanks for finding that.

Was it the reference number 131.018 that allowed you to find it?

Yep! Most of the Omega reference numbers are unique for each color scheme, so just searching that got me that one.

Incorrect.

The reference number denotes the case style/movement. A 131.018 can have many dial and hand variations.

Ah, oh! Thanks for that correction! Most of my experience with them is modern Speedmasters where each color scheme has its own reference. Good to know!

You are correct there.
The vintage watch case reference numbers were not as specific as the current Part Identifier Code (PIC) which points to a specific combination of case/mevement/bracelet/dial etc.
