To be honest this would be my first Omega period. I've been looking at them for a few years and finally decided to go for one. The main issues I have are I don't know if the watches are legitimate (looking mostly through ebay) nor what to price them at. I was really hoping to get some guidance from you guys on that! The two watches on ebay I'm mulling over:

    1) http://www.ebay.com/itm/OMEGA-SEAMA...761644?hash=item43e4ff8c2c:g:rS8AAOSwDNdVjaywPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    2) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1958s-Vinta...255216?hash=item5b1dc1aa30:g:WRsAAOSwHQ9WbGV8Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

For price I was hoping to keep it under $1,000. I really like the simplistic yet sophisticated look on these dials/cases along with the bands (was hoping to stay away from metal links). I was leaning more towards the black dial one.

Any insight on these watches would be much appreciated. I'd also be open to suggestions of other similar types (doesn't have to be Seamaster) if you guys can think of anything. Thank you!

Avoid both watches. They have refinished dials and overly polished cases and are way overpriced especially considering this.

You will hear that both have refinished dials, are over priced and that with patience, you can do better...

I think the second one is a redial, the plot seem slightly off especially the one for 11. have a look on the sales forum here, the watches are honest sold by enthusiasts not people trying to get rich quick from other people s lack of knowledge.

I didn't really look at the descriptions, just a quick glance at the watches. Still they should be honest enough to price them accordingly. People who are looking for their first watch might think it is a fair price for a watch like this.

Quite honestly that'd be perfect for what I'm looking for, thank you very much!

Thanks for all the quick replies as well. Doing this on ebay really concerned me, quite glad I came here asking for help. I honestly would've thought those to be fair prices (didn't know the redial and over-polish affected it in such a way), so thanks again for all your help!

As someone who has recently been there and ended up on the wrong side of redial and noob tax, I'd advise you to take your time, do your research and keep your emotions in check. This forum is an excellent place for all of that and I wish I had discovered it sooner. You being here is a good first step. Best wishes and let us know where you land once you do.

From a collector point of view, redials and "excessive" polishing are anathema. From a wearers point of view, perhaps different aesthetics apply. I tend to ask myself whether I'd be happy to see it on my wrist. Not all restoration work is done by satanic imps to piss of watch purists :p

That having been said, and purely in my opinion, the Seamaster offered here trumps both examples on Evilbay......

Definitely been enjoying perusing here as opposed to Evilbay. My intentions were to purchase a watch I'd wear pretty much everyday so the restorations didn't bother me too much, but after checking out all the watches on this site and looking over the feedback I've definitely found a new appreciation for the collector approach.
