Quite new to vintage watches.

What are your thoughts on it?
Also, it’s hard to advise whether a watch is a good buy without knowing the price.

I like the look of it, quite classy. It's not in your face like modern watches, very subtle.

Priced at £795

Way over priced keep looking you can pick them up for under £350 easily

In the UK you’re going to struggle to get a decent DeVille under £350. Even the newer slightly less desirable references like this.
When they show up at that price they’re often in potentially poor condition with poor pictures and you need to know what you’re looking at to be confident they can be nicely cleaned up.

It’s still too expensive but 500 should get you a good one. I’d also look at the slightly earlier ones, with automatic movement such as 166.020.

I totally agree with Davidt,

In 2023 I bought a Seamaster De Ville 166.020 with automatic date movement cal 565, 34.4mm, silvered dial, gold hands with gilt baton markers for GBP446. I then had to spend GBP430 for full service and dial restoration. It is now a beautiful watch worth maybe GBP1k+

IMO if your watch has been serviced (get proof of service) the price could be about right, and if you like it go for it. If not serviced, then maybe a bit high. BTW, my crown is different from yours .... mine has 12 teeth.

As you say, nice watch, subtle and classy. A better strap would help too.

I actually think it’s not a bad price, if you can negotiate down all the better but what modern watch can you get of comparable quality for £795, very few I’ll bet, top quality movement and excellent dial and case, not to mention how elegant it is.

Wanted to update everyone, bought for £595. Maybe a bit overpriced.
The price you pay can be viewed on a sliding scale. If you want to collect 4,000 watches, you better have deep pockets or be making great deals. If you love the watch and you want it, or just a few, then the price you paid will soon be forgotten while you enjoy the watch for a good long time

Its a nice watch, these go for closer to 300-350 quid on ebay but they’re good and it’ll serve you well being a Cal 565 with one of the later more water-resistant cases. 166.033 should be the reference, they’re a solid choice for a first vintage Omega.

The watch arrived, its stunning in person and very clean. It's keeping time very well, quick set date function works!
Only issue is the strap is too big for my wrist, anyone know the inside strap measurements?

look at the number on back of strap- 18 stands for 18mm lug width
