Newbie collector here looking for a vintage Omega Seamaster 300 like this one: I missed out on this eBay sale before I got up to speed learning about seamasters! http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-RAR...jpwmDH8PgoDQVs2xA4SRY%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Thanks for any help you can provide!
Well....I think you should not be too disappointed, because in my view the watch on Ebay has a later dial and is not original. This Omega is one of the most faked watches and it would be a good idea to spend some time getting all the info off the net and talk to experts before you take the plunge.
Well, this watch is not all fake, the case and bezel are fake, but crystal, hands, dial and movement look ok.. the seller ( whuynh18 alias qqwatch99 from Artesia CA) absolutely knows about it, relisted it after refunding former buyer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301194389096Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
First the dial numerals are off the size is too thick and just ugly. The window isn't even cut square and the correct date wheel should be black with white lettering. Again font is off. The swiss made should not make the 6 O clock marker that much shorter and stand out. The bezel is a known fake. The whole watch is fake... there are tons of pages on the internet if you search to find out more.
I've some old seamaster 300 from my father in law who's a retired Omega watchmaker that have exactly the same numerals, that have that same window and white date wheel. And some earliest dials have such swiss made that make the 6 o clock marker shorter... So do you mean all my watches are fake ?
I'm not going to get into it any more as some google searches should solve this and this is how the dial should look as well as the rest of the parts. the image belongs to another website and used as informational purposes.
According to my information, Omega supplied their 166.024 with a silver date wheel. They might also have used a black date wheel back then (you can never be too sure with all the alterations over the years). But claiming that only a black date wheel is correct is a bit too simplistic. Unfortunately I've never found any Omega documentation/catalogue featuring a 166.024. If someone has more info, please share!
What about this one? Bezel looks fake ? http://www.ebay.ch/itm/Vintage-Omeg...341610678?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item20e89dd2b6Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
